Default Buying an Ex-Council House

I've just decided to buy an ex council house which is in a decent area. Its the area i grew up in and the house prices are really steep in the village, the only affordable houses are the ex coincil ones, now i've seen loads of them being bought and generally the streets are getting smarter and smarter and its in a very desirable postcode.

What do you guys think about buying this type of property? Is there a stigma attached to it at all?

I'm not looking to make a killing on the house but I think buying this type of house in a desirable postcode certainly cant do any harm.

is the house worth it?
if you want to buy a hosue to live in then it's fine, if it's an investment then it's a fair bit more to think about as it's long term

ask around for a good few estate agents as to what houses are worth as it's not unknown for people to pump up the prices by huge amounts to get more investment and land registry fiddles

If it's in a huge cluster of them, then the house prices will always stay relatively low because of the stigma.

My house in 'ex-local authority', and is in a row of six. Can't see the problem with it personally. You can make it as nice as you want inside, and they're generally built well with good sized gardens.

Its gonna be a family home so not really bothered about it being an investment in the short to medium term, its not a massive estate either just three or 4 roads in a very desirable postcode. Like you say, very well built! They started to be sold off about 18 years ago I think

Thats what i've seen of it over the years, new people have come and spent money on the houses and the area is getting smarter and smarter, with two good schools in walking distance and in a desirable postcode I dont think i've made a mistake.
