i've seen boxes on ebay that say they are 40 or 80 gig for the normal sky+ and then you have the HD boxes that say they are 160-300 gig

but when you look at the wording it doens't say you can actually record for longer periods of time, it just says that they have 300 gig and 160 gig available to store programs on

wtf does this mean then? where is this extra capacity being used?

and for £200 odd quid, might i not just as well pay sky £250 for a box and get a years warranty on it?

 

the HD boxes have larger hard discs as the media when recorded is over twice the size, so for your 160 gb HD box, your an equivilent to a 40GB normal one...

 

as said above if you have hd then your going to record HD content which takes more room then SD recordings thats why it wont always seem like you can record more footage then a sky+ box

If you aint got HD subs then why would you want a HD box??

then get the hd subs

 

I have the HD box and 90% of what I watch is not HD, so it only takes up normal space on the hard disc if I record something, however you get sky plus facility chucked in and HD will only ever get better so well worth it in my opinion

 

2 hours of wrestling takes up between 8-10% of the sky+ and yet if i record a film it only takes up between 4-6%

what gives?

 

Can you just plug a Sky HD box in and away you go....or do you have to have stuff added to the dish like sky +

 

I had to have a new 'double wire' and a new plug in thing on the dish receiver, I think it's so you can record 2 programmes at the same time.

 

Yer.....think you have to have that for Sky+ which i all ready have....

But going from Sky+ to SkyHD...........is it just plug and play??

you can just plug the box in and watch what you want to watch according to the phone call i made about an hour ago

if you want to add the hd to the package then you have to pay an extra £10 a month

if you want mulit room you need to pay an extra £10 a month

BUT

if you have an old card then you "should" be able to recive all the free to air channels, although this hasn't been the case with me

when the box arrives i shall verify all these "claims" made by sky
