Evo X Driving Day @ Prodrive
I was lucky enough to get an invite to this last Thursday. I am totally smitten now with the X 300 SST model.
The day consisted of being divided into 3 groups of about 10-15 people, each group took it in turns doing the skidpan, the rally handling course and the high speed circuit. Our group started off on the wet test grip area [skidpan] with 3 people allotted to each car, myself and 2 mates had the Evo X 360 for this. That was great fun, at least it wasn't only me that had a big off with the track control turned off... the difference with it turned off was amazing
I had 3 really good instructors for the 3 different events and my God they can't 'arf drive The instructor Scott we had on the handling course was awesome on the fast laps he took us on... we drove the 300 SST model in Super Sport mode for this, thank God my lunch had had time to go down a bit I was slightly apprehensive about not having a clutch and using the paddle shifts to begin with, but luckily [surprisingly] I got to grips with them straightaway, so doing the high speed track last using the straight cut box in s/sport with traction control turned off was a piece of piss using it.
At the end of the day I managed to get 2 laps with Guy Wilks [Grp N Champion Driver last year] on the high speed track, that was brilliant, it's amazing just how fast a lap can be done in a standard 300 with an experienced driver.
The handling on the new X is absolutely awesome, far better than all the other model Evos. I was sceptical about the SST models before I went, but if I was to buy a X, it would definitely be the SST model with the 3 driving modes... normal [automatic], sport and super sport.
A thoroughly enjoyable day all round
