Default Setting Torque on Air Impact Wrench

Guys,

Just got my first compressor complete with variety of air tools................... question is how do I go about setting/ using an impact wrench torque ?

I've got a standard type 1/2 drive type for removing wheel bolts etc, it has an adjustable wheel on the bottom of the handle with settings 1-4 (4 being the hardest).................... the instructions are a bit brief and it seems to give a setting dependant on fastening size BUT is this the thread size or the head size ?

If I want to tighten wheel nuts how do I know if it's tight enough or too tight ?

do it the proper way (torque wrench) I only use my air gun to tighten up the wheel nuts of people that piss me off because then I know if they get a puncture they won't be able to get the wheel off anytime soon

also duga-duga's change dependent on the setting

You will never know.

Never tighten wheel nuts/bolts with an air gun, not if you either want the wheel to stay on or want to be able to get the nuts off when you get a puncture.
And if they are alloys not if you want the wheel to stay in one piece.

Cheers for comments lads................... I've NEVER been to/ seen a tyre garage where they use anything other than an air gun for tightening wheel bolts and never had a prob getting any off ?

Will do it the correct way

you can also use Torque Extension Bar's,they only go to the torque you need.
