My point is how fast it takes to get there appeals to me, top speed means nothing.
Stock supercars dont interest me as they might do 180 but they take for ever to get there.

Only reason a car like that Evo appeals to me is it does it within 1 mile from a standing start. And does 8sec quarters.

Thats no "ill be able to beat you as long as its dry and its a mega long straight road and we start at 120mph" type car.

I knew you'd say that and I knew when I posted that someone would pull the acceleration figures of his car out on me lol. Do you know what tyres did Rod use to post those figures out of interest?

It just seems that with all those big power rwd cars ..Rod's, that Supra etc 1st, 2nd and 3rd are barely usable.

Hopefully Rod can clarify, but as far as im aware he was on his "top speed" tyres running about 40psi in the tyres, ie nothing actually aimed specifically at acceleration times, so there is probably still some fat that could come out of that if acceleration was your main interest, even more so if you started to lose the glass and interior etc of course, as that must be adversely effecting the lower speed acceleration times.
Im sure its realistic to think you could have seen a 6.5 0-100 time from his car with some relatively minor setup changes etc

Never going to match martins sub 6 from his old car though, well not without drag tyres anyway!

Not slicks at all, literally just normal road tyres with a high speed rating, like you might find as standard fitment on a porsche 911 or similar.

Rod has never had any real traction issues as far as im aware, on the road or otherwise.

Vids like this adds to my confusion on why Rod even bothers with this top speed bullshit as a more aerodynamic car will make his look silly which leaves it to be the fastest cosworth but I genuinely think only about 3 people care that it has that title. Spending all that money to get a record that no-one gives a fuck about :S

Why not make the best modification to the Cosworth for top speed action and break it and make a custom top speed car and go to the salt flats if top speed gives you kicks? lol
Only ever set out to be fastest Cossie (to beat Bruce Reids rwd record, beating Martins time was a bonus & to crack 200mph incredible)
Mine has the same Power as the Porsche thats just done 222 & Joels Viper thats done 215+ we will never beat those unless we have a lot more Power & thats not going to happen, its down to aero-dynamics.
I was a Cosworth fan when I bought my car, now im not simple as, EVO are where its at now, but im simply too old to get interested. Im looking at 2 1930' s cars at the mo & its where im heading next.
If my block had not cracked in Febuary 2006 my car would have been sold shortly after & I would have been off here at 60 as I had promised the Missus. However as you know I had a problem on the dyno (block related again & as yet its not been re-built). Owe it to the car to do 1 run with the re-built engine & it does what it does it would be good to get close to Joel but who knows.
Mark has retired from driving on these Topspeed events for family reasons so it will be me doing it next time & from what ive produced in the past im a consistent 3mph slower than Mark, at 62 I simply cant do any better, try to imagine your Dad/Grandad doing it & you get the picture . Anyone fancy a drive, cos im not really wanting to do it.

He IS mr publicity.

And a nice guy.

My car will lay its Power down in 2nd gear even with Nitrous on.

235 wide Dunlop D01J's, Zoo rear beam, Jag 10.5" 'Power Loc' , Ledas, Correct springs to allow this & Adlenaline Chassis Connectors. Hopefully Mark will verify this.

The video below is a 0-150 13.2s run all very undramatic as you see.

As stated, never understood facination with top speed which you can relaistically use as opposed to a quick accelarating car.

Hence never taken mine about 130ish (test track of course)
Much more interested in knowing its doing 0-60 in 5 seconds or less

That Supra is stunning though, love that kind of raw power. Evo is mightyl impressive too

Just to confirm - I would happily drive the car for any top speed runs - it looks well sorted out.

I am sure u will get a cue anyway - but just to confirm

You miss the point mate, same as many.

In the time your car would take to do 0-130 id guess that Evo and Supra would be doing nigh on 200.

That IS a quick accelerating car. They not losing out on acceleration, they both 8sec cars.

If they were geared to only 130 itd be a bit pointless as they accelerate so fast.

Not a dig but you dont appear to understand that a car with say a 1000bhp must be geared for 200+ mph or it would have no grip whatsoever, just wheelspin. The accleration will get quicker the longer the gearing until optimum is reached for the Power.
Mines not on the same level as this EVO but can still manage your 130 in 10.3secs from rest, so available even on the shortest straight.
0-60 in 4 & 60-100 in sub 3 on 200+mph gearing suggests you may not understand what a really Powerful car can acomplish.
The Topspeed is a product of this Power taken at 1 mile or 1.5miles & is nowhere near its actual Topspeed which is a power/aero-dynamic limit way after that point.
The cars that run these incredible speeds in a mile have both Power & great aero-dynamics. AWESOME if you love this type of thing .

I trust this shows that long gearing does not mean a lack of accleration if you have the Power to pull it.

The dunlops are fatter semi slicks though aren't they? Still suprised. I guess it makes a big difference when you set everything up properly. What tyres do you run on the road and whats traction like then?

I fully understand and appreciate how quick these cars are, as stated that's the part that interests me. I was just passing comment regarding the debate about top speed being 'worth it' i.e. Chasing numbers.

I'am not doubting for a second that the your car isn't spectacularly quick, as well as being fast. And I understand a car like yours cannot possibly be geared for 130mph and still be drivable.
I just meant that if I had your car, id prefer to change it to drag spec suspension/wheel set up, strip it totally and run sub 10 second quaters with it.
Whatever floats your boat as I am sure you are aware.

I ran the Dunlops on the road, this is my road car I simply turn up & run.
now use Toyo 888.
In the future will use Pilot Sports for Topspeed run as these are re-enforced & have less drag.

Yes it would run 10's @ 150+ if set up correctly but it would be totally ruined as a road car.
To change it to a drag car would mean totally destroying it for that purpose. Cant stand noise thats why mine has been completely sound proofed & retaines full trim & a road gearbox. If I wanted to go drag racing it would not be in a Ford.
I agree its each to its own, drag racing is very specialised, Topspeed aint if you have the Power you run the speeds..

Is anything 'worth it' if you stop & think about it. If you wish to chase records whatever they may be you have to chase the numbers that others have set.
