What size exhaust housing does it have, as this will make a big difference to the max power.

To be honest I'm thinking of detuning as it does eat gearboxes I'm trying to find the motivation to change the current one which has 4th & 5th synchro's fubared, 3rds a bit dodgy aswell but i do have 2 spare boxes.

They are easy enough to work on if you have the right enviroment.

The transmission is the expensive part, there is a genuine ford 909 group a gearbox on ebay at the minute currently at just over a grand which will take upto 500bhp no probs, if I had some spare cash at the minute I would buy it myself.

If your working on a 10K budget you could probably get closer to 500bhp.

Well then you might aswell stay on the .48 and ring the most out of it.
There's no point in having .63 lag without the .63 power gains up top.

Mines already got the .63 on it but I,m thinking of maybe downsizing and going on to greens instead of greys.

Surely they don't lag that bad?

I run the 0.63 on my civic turbo, I get full boost by 3600-3800 and it's only a 1.6, with a fairly rich spool.

Sorry my mistake, yep if your dropping the power drop the housing size to get the most out of the spec.
You should allways go for the smallest turbo you can for the power your after IMO. Least amount of lag as possible.

Not really bad no, I run one and I don't mind it at all(tho its speced for ALS) but they are laggy'er than a smaller housing size, of course.

I will see how long it takes to destroy the next gearbox which has been recond and then decide.

I like the power it has now and don't find it too laggy, I think it hits full boost at about 3200rpm redlines at about 7000rpm and holds it well. it is well torquey aswell about 385lb/ft i guess thats whats killing the boxes.

Don't fuck around with re-con boxes, get yourself a Bara/Mullet box .. Give Marco Polo a ring off here, he will advise on the best thing to do, as there is no point in continually ruining gearboxes, you will just get pissed off with the car and loose interest. I was going to run a std box on my Escort, which hopefully will be around the 400/400 mark, but it is just not worth the hassle of changing gearboxes every few months. Granted a Bara/Mullet box will be 3kish, but by the time you have done 3 or 4 std gearboxes with labour, fuck factor etc and buying/ reconning your box it will be roughly the same, except you will always be waiting for it to break and let you down. Build it once, build it right

I wish I had the cash to do it but in the middle of doing up the house aswell so most spare cash is going there.

To be fare this is only the second box in 2 years and the last one was secondhand (ebay) and a bit dodgy when fitted, 3rd to 4th was crunchy when thrashing it.

Thats why the new one is recond to see if it lasts any better, if not I will have too lose some ponys for now.
