Default Man hands in machine gun . . and is jailed

A YOUNG man was praised by a judge for handing in a sub-machine gun to police, and then jailed for two-and-a-half years.

Shaun Wood voluntarily handed in the weapon, which he had been looking after for an associate for three months, after crumbling under the pressure of “minding” it.

At Liverpool crown court yesterday, Judge Sean Duncan described his decision as “brave”, but handed him a reduced term for possessing a prohibited weapon.

The court heard Wood had run up a debt with his Childwall drug dealer after losing his job.

To pay off the £200 cannabis bill, he agreed to store small amounts of the drug at his home in Clayford Crescent, Knotty Ash.

The court heard the 22-year-old was ordered to hold increasingly serious drugs, including crack cocaine, until he was given the Mac sub-machine gun and ammunition.

But Charles Lander, prosecuting, said the pressure got to Wood.

He picked up the gun, which was hidden under floorboards, and began to walk around Southport

He eventually went in to the town’s police station where, “visibly shaking and distressed”, he voluntarily handed it ov to police officers..

Wood told them he simply wanted to get rid of the gun and had been contemplating suicide.

He admitting loading bullets, but said he had been unable to sleep while it was in his house.

Wood, who admitted possession of a prohibited weapon and ammunition on November 7 last year, has no previous offences.

Despite accepting Wood must have had “some fascination at first” to fit the gun’s magazine, Judge Duncan added: “If people are brave enough to come forward and hand in guns, the courts will acknowledge that bravery.”

imagine his face when judge gave that reply..ps dont bend down for the soap ..ive been told ..and thanks for the gun you wanker

be warned dont hand in guns if you have them above

Don't keep machine guns in the house, it's not rocket science!
Wonder if he would have got a shorter sentence had he handed it in straight away.

What sort of motivation is that for handing a gun in though, after reading that who else is gonna hand them in.

It should be hand them in and get let off, or get caught with one and get sentdown. putting people away for handing them in, hows that gonna turn the country around.

I'm sure there was a month long 'gun amnesty' a while back, would probably be a good idea to do that more often.

What i dont understand though, is why they arent doing a deal with the guy who handed the gun in for info on the dealer in return for a lesser sentence or whatever?
Surely thats the guy they want to be locking up??

Neither are increasing, the way crimes are defined and recorded are changing which affects the statistics. Along with increased media coverage causing panic...

Exactly what i was thinking, but then most people dont have it in them to shoot someone. Also i would rather do a 2 1/2 years than 10+ years, will probably be out in 18months if keeps his head down.

Lmfao @ a 2 grand bb gun.

Mac 10/11's are shit anyway too small a calibre of round and the fire rate is too high for the 9mm(mac10) and .45auto (mac11).
You need a skorpion 7.62 short will rip you too piece's.
And what a harsh sentence for the poor druggie scouser.

when you have people offering to "do" someone for as little as £50-£200 as the roumour is round my neck of the woods it's a bit much to expect people to do anything else other than keep shtum about who's who
