Default XR2i problem! :(

My mum has a 8v XR2i (CVH). It wouldn't start this morning when she went to go to work. I have checked things over quickly tonight and have found there is no spark. My train of thought is making me think the CPS has gone pear shaped.

Is there anything else I can check for or anything else it could be?

either the CPS is knackered, or the coil pack has packed up.

Also has it got any kind of immobilisor on it. Have seen a dodgy install on one of my cars that one of the circuits had become disconnected.
Check all fuses also.

Silly things but worth checking!
