Woke me up, bedroom was shaking and the whole house seemed to be rattling!
I was that tired i just rolled over and went back to sleep, never got out of bed. I just thought that cant have been an earthquake, they dont happen that big in the UK. Then it crossed my mind that a meteor might have struck somewhere else in the world. Then i fell back asleep...

Amazing there has only been one casualty reported so far.... a young lad in Barnsley had part of a chimney come through the roof and land on his legs whilst he was in bed...

However, good old BBC1 news has just got it totaly wrong and have just reported that it was an "elderly" man...... lol

Surprised USGS has Richter scales in other countries.
Hi Cars,

I think the global std for measuring quakes is the Richter Scale.

We have brick houses over here which by design arent as flexible as most US houses...so theory we'd need less of a quake to do damage to houses.

We probably only get 1 minor quake a Yr if that...Thats why everyones excited LOL

Actual quotes from Sky News 'viewers'......

My wife and I were in bed and we had just finished love making when she told me that I made the earth move , but then we woke up in the morning to find it was an earthquake. I was truly disappointed.

Woke up to find everything shaking in the room, jumped out of bed and started chanting "The power of Christ compels you!!" and it stopped!

I did not feel sweet FA. I was wide awake as i was at work. My brother felt it quite bad in Bedfordshire.

I was in my work van at the time listening to the radio. There was a feature on about old songs from one year and what happened in that year.. Loads of people were ringing in about the quake. I thought it was apart of the feature and that it happened years ago. Was only when i sp[oke to my mother this morning at 11am that she told me there was a quake, i said i had heard on the radio but they mentioned 1986 so i thought it was all apart of the radio feature. Didnt realise it was real-time when i heard on the radio. (cry)

Was you driving at the time ?
I was just round the corner from home in my car and never felt it but people were out on the streets & the missus was shook up a bit so must have been noticable.
