Unhappy Help With 92 4x4 Saph Cosworth Cold Starting Issues.

I have never had any staring problems in 12 years of ownership (so long as the battery’s good). First turn of the key, no feet on the pedals = first time start, even tick over.

The cold weather has started to cause problems – starts, then wants to stall (most times does) or dies as soon as the gas is touched. After 20 secs of persuading it to run with a light throttle it’s perfectly OK and back to normal. Starting it on a warm engine is perfectly fine / normal.

My attempts to fix it so far have consisted of :

• New plugs – No difference
• New cap and arm – No difference
• Rebuilt ISCV – No difference
• Swapped ISCV with known good one – No difference
• Fuel pump prime from cold – Checked and OK – couple of seconds prime on first turn (and repeated turns) of key

Where should I look next ?

Note that in 12 years I have never had to replace any of the sensors and as far as I know they are all original (now with 90k) are any likely to be an issue ? Air temp sensor maybe ?

Cheers for any replies

WD

Not air temp sensor. Try the coolant temp sensor

does sound like iscv. Have you checked wireing to it, unplug it while its running and see if it alters speed of engine. Its defo worth changeing cts aswell

for the price of a set of sensors change them also remove your ISCV and put your ignition on and then plug it in you should see the solinoid move up and when un-plugged move down again, also check you TPS wiring.

TBH i would get the car booked in for a setup and find out if you have any faulty sensors

if your based in the north west book it in at MSD a setup will only cost you £140 and will take about 3-4 hrs

Best place to go MSD and best £140 you'll spend.
