Default How safe is a direct bank transfer?

I've got a buyer for an old exhaust system and the buyer has suggested to do a "direct bank transfer" so the daft question... how do I go about doing this and how safe is the process?

Cheers
Rob

Very safe - I do this all the time with items I buy from the MLR and ebay as well as items I sell.

He just needs your sort code and account no, plus your name.

I use phone and internet banking all the time to make payments like this, avoids Paypal charges and quicker than cheques.

Cash on collection still my preferred method, but Bank transfers are no probs either.

Thanks for the quick replies people but excuse my next daft question but surely if I'm giving my bank account number and sort code to some total stranger, couldn't he just empty my account or something equally as bad?

I'm hungover and full of cold so thats my excuse if the answer is blatently obvious !!

cheers

No, the worst he could do is set up some direct debits for you.

You give your acc number/name and sortcode every time you write a cheque!
Its the safest way to do a transaction with a 3rd party and no they cant empty your account...lol

It's also very easy to set up a second account just to recieve the funds so there's no risk on your main account. This is what I have done.
