Default Contract Phones - whats the deal?

Hi all,

Im looking to get a contract phone next week - ive always used PAYG.

Was speaking to a few mates who are on contracts; one mentioned that although he never uses his allocated minutes and texts he gets charged more than his monthly deal (£35). Does this happen alot? Are there hidden charges with contracts, such as line rental not being included in the shown prices online?

Anything else i should be wary of, or any good deals out there at the moment?

Cheers,

if hes not using his allocated mins / texts up and getting charged more than the monthly line rental, then hes using other services not including in his allowance, ie picture messages mms, cross network calls, 0800, 0870 numbers etc, internet

Shouldn't be hidden costs, just watch (as said above), things that aren't included in the free minutes.

Usually non-geographical numbers aren't included (08** 09** etc). You used to be able to use your free minutes for 0800's, but even they are excluded now AFAIK.

Also, watch out for 18 month contracts. They are common now, just be sure that the deal is worth the extra 6 months commitment.

If your fast you can get the Three(3) 1100 free mins(thats any time any network) for £20.25 per month.
The past couple of weekends they have run similar offers, if this weekend doesn suit then it may well be worth waiting to see if the offer is repeated next weekend.

Certainly looks a cracking deal.

Picture messages or video calls arent included nor are 08 numbers.

They've always been ok with me, had a few problems with my phone and they have sent out new ones the next day, even on New Years Day 1st thing.
£35 a month for 600 mins, unlimited texts (ok its limited to 3000 :S ) and internet is a good enough deal for me.
Customer service is good too, unless ur ringing about ur broadband and you find it hard to understand ppl from some distant country - like me.

I must just be one of the lucky ones hehe

Andy - ive never really been keen on 3. They're deals are good but all my mates who have had thier contracts with them before have said never again; something about calls very frequently being cut off mid conversation due to 3 "borrowing" other networks' space.

How does that work? Would i be eligible for this, or are these cheques to pay off another contract.

Cheers
