Linux Help
Hi peeps.
Need a bit of help (maybe a lot) regarding YDL (Yellow Dog Linux) on my PS3.
Got it installed fine and all running great, but i cant get VLC or mplayer to install or whatever it is.
IM completely new to linux and thus abit out of my depth with code etc etc, so could someone help me step by step on how to get it installed.
i've done loads of searching and nothing really for the idiot to understand.
If anyone has done this could they help me get it on the PS3.
Im currently typing this on my PS3 on YDL in Firefox. so i've got it all working on wireless etc etc

Yellow dog Linux is a Nix based on RedHat unstable branch called Fedora Core.. its usually used by systems running Risk Processors such as early power mac's or playstation
What specifically do you want to get installed and do you want to do it from a binary source or a package source (rpm)
You can get the VLC RPM (redhat package management) source from the following location :
http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrp...deolan-client/
Downloading it and clicking it should open the respective package management application and request your root password before installing
if you wish to do it by source let me know and I will talk you through compiling it

all i basically want is to watch AVI files on the playstation, either from a burnt DVD or from my PC via a network.
Will try that link in a moment after i've fired up the PS3.

The newest PS3 firmware plays AVI/DIVX files so just use the native PS3 OS....!
thought you might be able to help dan.
as far as i know i've got the latest version on fireware on my PS3?
how do i check?
after all the hassle of putting YDL on
only trouble with using PS3 OS and not YDL is i can use a torrent client in Linux.

ps3 does support WMA playback via DivX codec, just hadnt been activated
after changing the setting is system settings it now playes DivX movied.
Right so i guess i dont need linux to do movie playback, is there anyway to download torrents on the ps3? without using linux? im guessing not, but how do i get the downloaded torrents from linux over to the ps3 interface?
