Default Replacing a sill

Ok, my shed of a corsa needs a drivers side sill, I picked one up today for £10 and I have an arc welder. I have done little bits of welding before but not replacing panels on a car.

I might have a go at the weekend. Any advice would be appreciated.

Don't say scrap it as I want to do it just to see if I can

Thanks

Ollie

have some water standing by...fires can happen very easily when elding.

make sure the metal is perfectly clean or the weld won't take....other than that just plod on......oh and you have to disconnect the battery too i believe.

Never got on well welding a car with a arc welder the metals too thin you really want a mig welder, or you'll end up blowing holes though it, others mite have got on ok but i didn't.

if you lived in manchester you could borrow my mig just gridn the sill panel out drill holes in the turnd over bit clean up the edges on the car with a grinder if it doesent need a full sill just chop out the bit you need and use that just need a full weld round the outer where the panel fits and you can get away with spot welding it at the bottom

As everyone else has said, you would be much better off with a mig welder, an arc welder spreads far to much heat and will warp the panels you are trying to join the sill to.
