Default fuel tank question

well heres the 2.8i fuel tank, came across a problem.

this pipe that runs across the top of the tank, its not the fuel out to the pump, its not the fuel return, and its not the overflow. It just comes out one side of the tank, over the top and to the other side. And its a little worse for wear and i snapped it

Is it needed? ie can i block it both ends and away with it? or does it need to be repaired, if so how will i go about it?

Default tank

Hi there, that pipe i believe is an air bleed, looking at the photo pics, out one side and in the other, just allows the tank to vent when filling. Cant you replace the rubber hose, using a replacement fuel pipe from Halfords. You still have some remander of the steel pipe to use, this way you wont have any spit back when filling. Good luck.
