fuck it, i'll spill the beans
went back to pumabuild to get my refund on the brakes
got there and alan was, lets just say he was a little "agitated"
bottom line is that he has said "take Ł900 and take me to court"
so as of tomorow, the paperwork is going in
originally i made the offer of refunding the money for the brakes as the Ł160 for the labour etc was not what i had come for, but he's said that the brakes are now second hand so he can't sell them as new,even though he's not sold a set, ever
then there was the confusoin where he maintiained that i was alwasy after an 8 pot kit and he didn't sell a 6 pot kit, even thoght it's advertised on his site and that's what he was ofering me the first time we discussed it over the phone
but now there is the matter of him claiming hr spent "hours modifiying" the set up to fit my car when all he did was add 2 wrong sized washer to space the calipers out and then a set of spacers to space the wheels out
and then, when i went to return the brakes,one guy took them, then, 10 minutes later he returned with the box claiming they were scratched to buggery and there were bits missing, like the braided hoses, which is when i confronted him with the fact that the hoses weren't supplied and th ehoses that were on the car were used
not only wern't these the correct hoses for the calipers (the calipers supplied require a tapperd titting and the ones in the standard calipers are parralled threaded) the hoses weren't even long enough and were at full stretch at the point of full lock and had pulled themselves to the point of being stretched through the rubber lines that supprt them away from the strut bodies
basicly his story has changed every time i've spoken to him, and all week i've been trying to call him i've either been met with the busy ring tone or someone at the workshop has answered, so when he's said "you should have spoken to me" how could i?
he has NEVER returned phonecalls ever since i've been in contact with him and he's first plased the blame to someone else for ordering the wrong parts even though there was 1 set of 360mm discs left on the shelf when i went there the first time and he made the point of making sure the guy at reception put my name on them because there were no calipers available but that wasn't a problem as i could wait for them to be fitted and machined up etc, then soemone else for not calling me to tell me that the kit i wanted wouldn't be able to fit my car, and now it was someone else for the fitting being incorrect
so he's said he would fit a kit to my car, then not fitted that kit, then said it's my fault, then said that as i was happy with the kit when i saw it i shoudl have told him then (what was i going to do? get a tape measure out? he said he'd fitted 360s, every conversation we had i made clear i wanted 360's and the 6 pots not the 8 pots he was offering) and now he's disputting the fact that he even SELLS a 6 pot 360 kit
i gave him the option of refunding Ł1100 and it'd take the hit for the rest and put it down to experience but that was his final offer
so better to take some money and screw him for the rest, the fuel to get there in the first place, the feul to get there for the fitting, the feul to get there to return the brakes, my lost earnings for yesterday as well as the Ł560 he still owes me
when i get the cable i'll put up the pics as well because these brakes are just totally and utterly the worst bits of shit i have ever seen
the standard brakes i put back on stopped me beter and made no noise, compared to the kit they fitted which either gave no stopping or squealing when you slowed down a litle or sounding like they were grinding when oyu put the foot down hard even though there was no noticable extra slowing down of the car
the standard pads are bigger than those fitted to this kit
the standard pads have almost twice the thickness in material of the pads fitted to this kit
the pads and calipers fitted don't even fit the full 46mm of disc available at only 40mm wide (the standard pads are 57mm wide) so i've lost more than a 1/3rd of the swept area
the calipers were fucked where the brake fluid had been leaked onto them from the bleed nipples
there was corrosion showing on the surface of the pad shims and pistons
there were even different sized bolts fitted to the calipers to bolt them to the bracket
and then there was the 2 large washers used to space the caliper out
and the 3mm spacer used to space out the wheel to stop it from fouling the calipers
and even then one side was still hitting the inside of the wheel
and then he wanted MORE money to fit the right kit
and MORE money for me to bring up the car and him to refit my brakes back onto it
AND he had my original brakes up on ebay beacuse they wern't put into the back of my car and i had to drive back to collect them
i could go on but i think that's enough for a sunday nights reading
thanks for reading but i honestly can't warn people enough about this lot, they should have been wearing boots and stetsons
i really do feel sorry for anyone who's actually bought these brakes from them, this set even had the bodged holes drilled into the anodised buts of the bells for 4 stud applications that hadn't been anodised afterwards again so it's fairly obviousl he's just bolted on a set of fiesta fitment stoppers to mine as everyone knows they'll fit with a spacer
end, unless someone else has anything else they'd like to add
oh, and if you are thinking "did the recipt say 6 pot 360's?" well no, it said "6 pots" only, nothing else

the issue was that the hoses were stratched to their limits on full lock
and that's without the car going up in the air
seeing as it's the guy i used to work for an he normally gives me a heads up if it's going to fail on anything substantial and doens't put it throuh the system for the first 10 minutes, this is a fairly shocking bit of shoddyness, my mate even offered to give me a total lift back home as he was seriously concerend about the state of the brakes
and add to that the fact the calipers fitted have a tappered fitting and the normlas don't, that would also go someway to explaining why they were so difficult to undo

Christ, thats awful sounds like a right bodger. I'd take him to court without thinking twice, just purely because of the awful job he did on your brakes. At the end of the day it could have been your life on the line!
