Default Anyone converted a Focus RS to LPG?

Just wondering whether anyone had done it? I'd rather run one car than having to run one toy for the weekends (which gets hardly any use due to the crap weather) and one diesel car for work, so if I could get a Focus RS to go to work in and run in on LPG even though it would be doing a fair amount of mileage a year (18-20k now, used to be 30k) I wouldn't have any more of a fuel bill than on my Escort Turbo Diesel and I'd be driving a car I actually liked! And I'd only have to tax, insure, repair and service one car.

Anyone done it then?

PS What sort of mpg do you get out of a Focus RS in standard form?

Surely with a Focus RS on LPG you would lose the kind of performance that you got a Focus RS for in the first place??

I don't know, that's one of the reasons I asked. I've seen various people selling LPG converted cars and they reckon the performance is no different, or if it is different it's so slight you don't really notice it. I'm not really up on LPG, I just know it's a damn sight cheaper than petrol or diesel.

No, you don't, but I want to have a nice quick car and not have to shell out for two lots of tax and insurance, repairs and servicing, and one that will do a reasonable mpg for the mileage I do (360 miles a week now)

LPG aparrantly does not affect the performance of your car ive heard trev. Could be wrong tho.

End of the day mate, why not do it? You can still run it on petrol too, so run it on gas for work, and then petrol for the odd blast.

my dad has 2 cars that run on lpg.tbh i could'nt and he could'nt notice any power loss.Works out good as he travels alot so fuel is cheap. Can switch it back to petrol when you want aswell.

But could you lpg the focus because its a turbo. i am not sure as i have never seen a turbo'd car with a lpg conversion

as far as i'm aware, they don't work with the turbo, and it'd be flat as a pancake then, unless you upped the compression ratio to something silimar to a normal 2.0.

i knew of someone that had a scooby and could only run it with no boost on LPG.

if you want a performance car, get a big lazy V8 Audi and convert that

LPG has high octane, like over 100 I heard... so should in theory be ideal for a turbo car...

I know someone who runs his rallyschool cars on LPG and one of them is an Escort Cos. Its a sequential system and he has had to run 8 gas injectors on it to power nearly around 300bhp. no major problems and the car gets a good pasting on the stage

best bet is remove the engine and fit a diesel in its place.
advantages are...
you wont get the torquesteer sending you into oncoming traffic
better fuel economy
quicker acceleration between 4th and 5th
longer service intervals
better residuals after 5 years
you know it makes sense
cheers nomad
