Default !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Major new problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right, as a few of you will know i have just replaced the cam on my RST.

Well all was fine up until an hour ago. The car cut out at a junction and wouldnt start. I tried to bump it and it kicked in but as soon as i release the accelarator the engine cuts out.

When i opened the bonnet I found a splatter of fresh oil by on the bonnet on the cam pulley side.

The car is now stuck and not goin anywhere fast.

What the hell is wrong with it now

Any ideas, save me please!!!!

Could be all manner of things. You're not going to know until you take the rocker cover off.

Edited to ask

a) Did you replace all the rocker nuts with new ones and torque them up correctly?
b) Was the belt tensioned properly and has it slipped any teeth?
c) Did you put the spacer plate back in properly?
d) was the cam brand new and did you do the right running in procedure?

the oil is coming from behing the cam pulley so looks like its the seal.

Find the air leak. If you have a dump valve, remove it at once.

Also, check carefully that:

1) The oil filler cap seal is good.
2) The oil, seperator hasnt cracked.
3) The dipstick is fully in.

the recovery bloke checked ll this last night, i have got a dump valve but would that cause the oil leaking through the seal???

Is it cutting out because its loosing compression with the seal leaking

Dump valves are notorious for failing especially if the older diaphragm type.

RST's just don't ever run properly with dump valves from my experience!!

Stu's advice is spot on, try those things and see where you get.

Oh and obviously re-do the cam seal!

The cam seals are a pain in the arse and a fair amount do leak. It only takes a little nick. But for 60p or something it ain't worth breaking it.
