any one here play golf ?
Went to the driving range the other day, first time id had anything to do with it, but with 7 years of hockey teamplay i didnt have much bother, tis a bit different though!
I was getting the ball quite far i think they said 150 feet / meters / yards not sure which, then tried the properish form and got upto 175, great IMO as I didnt expect id be able to hit the ball off the auto Tee.
So im quite into it, aching all over today from muscles i never use, glad i stretched first!
Can anyone recommend me a starter kit ? will spend upto £200, would like a driver included but will spend £100 or so on one seperatly if needed.
I like the look of this one dont have a clue on any tech specs tho

Are gloves important, do i need two of them, i didnt use any but being an ex hockey player the vibration through the shaft (ooo errr) didnt bother me at all.
Thanks

Hello mate... In new to Golf and probably been about a dozen times or so and absolutely love it.
I have these wilson clubs and they are fantastic for beginners and intermediates....

You get everything you need club wise, Driver, 3 and 5 wood.. 3 hybrid and irons up from 4. Pitching wedge and Sandwedge.
You normally only need one glove and for a right handed player the glove will be for your left hand.
I recommend getting a trolley...cheap from Argos as they all do the same thing. Get a towel that clips onto bag for wiping the club after hitting the ball into the woods..Oh thats just me haha.
Get an assortment of T's and Soft and hard golf balls... dont go mad on balls as a beginner you wont notice any difference apart from the cost of hitting them out of bounds etc.
Obviously this is my perspective from a totally novice player and some of the better players might advise you accordingly.
Oh yeah I recommend some golf shoes and some water proofs.

get GOOD used clubs rather than cheap shite new ones DO NOT get a driver untill you are playing ok. Its the hardest club to hit, the most unforgiving and will destroy your game/confidence in a few holes if your not hitting it right. Get a 3 wood maximum and learn to T off with that first
Enjoy it thats the main thing. Quite a few golfers on here I play off 11 but struggled last year due to not playing enough....no time

My best advice would be to get a couple of lessons BEFORE you start teaching yourself bad habits. Trust me.
I bought my first set of clubs from Argos, and subsequently blamed them for my shite playing, but I was proved wrong when somebody who knew what they were doing used them.
But ultimately you get what you pay for.

Listen to this man he talks sense.
Dont go for high end lake balls, get ones designed for slower swing speeds and low spin rate as this is what you want when starting out, a little time spent reading up will tell you quite alot.
Lessons are the best thing you can spend money when starting out. Stops you getting into bad habits straight away.
I was lucky as my Old man is a very good golfer and showed me how to play the game. Even though i am off a lower handicap than him now he is still the one i turn to when something isnt right, he can spot whats wrong within a couple of swings. I cant wait to play more this year my aim is to get down to 5-6.
One for the better players never buy Pro V1's as lake balls, my mate whos a Pro told me at Xmas that they absorb water is sat in it for any length of time.
Most important thing to remember is Have fun, if you no longer enjoy it then take time out from it.
