To evo or not to evo that is the question??????
Help needed from the PF faithfull please
The thought of evo ownership is beckening, but everyone that I know who has owned a cossie and sold it ends up getting another one and it starts all over again, I don't want to sell my one and then regret it but evo's are phat and I really want one, help what do I do? sell my car and my plate and get one? or keep it as cossies will only be worth more money with age, its a real mind boggler and I'm in two minds,
Please vote and let me know your thoughts

Its seems lots of peeps are or have done this had a cossie and bought jap then returned to the cossie ....................
I love cossies always have always will BUT The jap cars are better all round cars but cant really tune them like a cossie for the money etc etc
There must be a few who have went jap be it scooby or evo and thought YES this is so much better all round car evo tho it doesnt kick like a cossie does ??

You wont say that when yer pinto goes all rattly and tappety and chassis legs are hingin wae rot , pity the oil that leaks from the engine on cossies didnt cover the rear chassis legs then there would be double the amount still on the roads

i love your car charlie
but i say yes mate, sell the cossie ....and try out an evo for a while, if you dont, you will always wander what an evo is like, and until you get one, youll never know
sell the cossie, keep the plate on retention as you know if you get bored with the evo, youll end up buying another cossie, and a plate like that doesnt come available so often
if i was going for an evo, it would have to be any one after the Evo V, my fave is the Evo VII.
the money youd get for an excellent example like your cossie, will be a huge contribution to a good evo (or M3 )

Shame to see your considering in selling up as your car looks a treat! But Iam just slightly over biased with the Evo! I've owned an Evo 9 FQ 340 now since last November, and have never owned a Cossie I couldn't really compare its running values. Both can be expensive when gone wrong but after owning a few Cars, both Jap and Ford I have to say Jap wins hands down.
Go test drive one and see how you like it. If I had the choice to go back and buy again it was a hard choice between the Tommi Makinen 6.5 or the car I currently have I'd say buy new but it was a hard choice!
Also have a look into the servicing and parts side first as some bits are quite expensive!

Mate i had a saff similar spec to your... 400hp ish 4x4 coilovers and changed to a evo 6 RS 2 and i guarantee if you do this you will never go back.......
You will always love and respect cosworths like i do (hence me being on here cos the MLR is shite) but you would never put up with the hassles etc after a evo.

I've never regretted selling my Escos one iota. My Evo VIII is a far superior car in all respects.
I owned the two for 12 months, so could pick and choose what to drive.... 99.9% it was the Evo.
I'd never go back to cossie ownership, they are far too outdated in comparsion.

I know a lad who bought an evo 6 last year, about august time. He had it 3 weeks and the engine went bang. He got that rebuilt then the gear box shit itself. I drove past his house at the weekend and noticed the evo had gone and now he has put his private plate on a bmw. Cossies have there faults but they are an old car. Most of them have properly been thrashed to fook. If looked after they will be ok just the same as any car really. The jap stuff doesnt do much for me either but thats just my opinion.

Yep do it, dont bother with the lower number Evo's unless you want to potentially have to spend on it, like with a cossies. 6,7,8,9 are the way to go or a good 5. Most examples in my experience of those models will provide 000's of kms of trouble free driving if you look after them.
Definately do it

Had an Esc cos, sold it, had a saf cos, sold it, bought an Evo 7, sold it but only ever regretted selling the evo and would DEFINITELY go back into Evo ownership. Was going to buy another one last week but opted for the more sensible option for a DC5 Integra as i needed something i could afford to run everyday!!!
Evo all day long for me

EVO's are such good cars, they batter the Cossie in most areas other than straight line speed ( Ł for Ł ).
Hard decision though if you really like your cossie...tough call.

upto you,ate i personally wouldnt leave a cossie in favour for the evo.ive borrowed my matesone a few timesfor a couple of weeks at a time.and as muh as its my sort of car i couldnt sell the cossie for one.the vo is a superb car and very capable but just doesnt have the character the cossie has
tbh though if i had to go jap it would be an evo 6/8/9 or a supra for me
tough decision buddy but its all up to you

My saff 4x4 cos owed me Ł21k after 2.5 years and about 5000 miles and was never reliable.
My evo 6 owed me Ł2.5k after 1.5 years and 11000 hard miles and that was only for new brakes, tyres, wheels and servicing....
Obviosuly thats not including buying costs..incidentally the evo was much faster all round and only slightly slower at very high end speeds.
Miss that car.....

Had considered Evo ownership myself mate. Be a shame to see your Cos sold on as she's a nice example and you've looked after it. I remember standing under it whilst it was on th eramps at Rob's a few times drooling.
Maybe get an Evo for day to day stuff and keep the Cos for Sunday best?
Ones it's gone it's gone and tbh I think you'd be hard pressed to find another as straights and cared for as the one you have

evo and a cosworth is great, so is 2 cossies or 2 evos
evos will drop in value but a good cozzie holds money
unless you spend big on it then want to sell.
saw a 9 fq on friday do 15.5k o6 plate in black with a leather trim
and a shite carbon bonnet and motorworld big hoops.
then had a look on ebay and realised they seem to be doing nearly
20k.
sounded well nice, bit like my 7
i love evos and cozzies tbh the evo is a modern cozzie

i will have an evo at some point, but at the moment, the only ones for me are the top spec 8's & 9's, and there cost is just to high and will plummit, so i'll wait a year or 2 and then have one.

i couldn't honestly understand what went wrong with people and the
latest generation evos at first, the 5,6,and 6.5
were so good, people wanted them and ignored the 7's
then when the 8 came out it seemed to get the glory,
now the 9 looks a lot like a 7 people get confused.
the 7's now seem to be getting sought after and have not
lost money over the last 18 months or so.
thats a rare thing for a performance car
