we used to get eng managment light and battery before it broke, but now nothing not even a click.
it hasnt been moved for about a month so my step dad jumped it, drove for a few miles, then when he got back in it, nothing

Typical vauxhal problem sometimes. i reckon your battery to body earth has rotted out or broken. We had to do it on my sisters nova then her astra or the gearbox earth

It wont start at all if the engine management light is not on. Also no battery light indicates a possible fault with the charging system. Id definately check the earths out first, give them all a good clean up even if they look ok.
When you say you had the lights before it "broke" do you mean before this non starting incident or has it had something else fixed and now it wont start?

Check to see if you get all the lights when you connect it to another battery/car, if its fine, then obviously its the battery thats knackered. If not, it certainly sounds like a bad earth somewhere, or certainly some bad wiring.
