looks like my cossie will be written off
Just taken my car to the bodyshop to get an estimate to send to the insurance company, i had taken it to a local bodyshop as i knew he would spend the time trying to source the parts (as he is also a big RS fan), i spoke to him last week to tell him what parts would need to be sourced and unfortunately the parts are just not available anymore, therefore we have no choice but to tell the insurance company that it cannot be repaired with genuine new parts (still waiting on one source for the parts, but its a long shot) So i guess that means they will write it off.
I am pretty upset about it really, as i have had the car for 3 years now and spent alot of money to get it to become a reliable motor.
So what do i do now?
wait for the check to come through the post, hopefull have the right to buy it back for salvage, buy a new cossie and start the whole process all over again, but with the fear that i could very well end up in the same situation all over again.
Or is therea better alternative?
here is a pic just to illustrate how little it takes to write off a cossie

Not good
You're the customer, you pay £££'s in insurance, surely be nice if you had choice of an alternative repair you'd be happy with, rather than tidy car written off for the sake of next to fuck all
Suppose buying it back could leave you with a few quid in your pocket, never know.

Second hand bumper will be pretty easy to get.
Also, just find someone who is scrapping a shell, and get the wing off it?
Failing that, wait for the cheque to come through, buy the salvage back, break the car then buy another MINT Saph with the money you have.

Thats a write off? Even to my untrained non bodyshop eye that cant be a write off. Why cant the wing just be filled and repaired or the dent pulled out? The bumper needs some paint. Or is it the angle of the photo. No fucking way on gods green would I let my cossie be written off for that

What a load of shit! Take it to someone who knows what they are fuckin looking at! At first my insurance company were going to write mine off but after kicking up a stink i got someone to come round and knew what they were looking at. Not just a 1990 ford sierra...
My mum done this to mine 3 years ago...
And it got repaired with new ford doors. The repair bill was £3795.
Got it back like new!
I'm sure your damaged wing could be repaired no problem!

A ford sierra wing is a ford sierra wing! Whether it's a 1.6GKL or a cosworth! Some goes with the doors etc etc.. Surely he could do something with the bumper?? It don't look THAT bad....
What insurance company are you with? And how much have they said it's worth?

I think someone is trying to have you over and get your car for fuck all,DONT let them write it off,you will not get a sniff of the salvage......it will either go to a contract salvage company or one of the engineers mates for next to nothing.........Insurance assesors make Estate Agents look honest...
At the very least, get the bodyshop to agree with the insurance company to a contract repair......this means the bodyshop will agree a figure to get your car back to pre accident condition using genuine AND approved aftermarket parts in order to effect a repair to a suitable standard
Dont let them fuck you over, just kick up a fuss and start causing shit, you will get what you want...

the front bumper is totally fooked, its smashed all the mounts and where the valance on the bottom once was, it has cracked and ripped, the wing cant be filled as it has all raised up, the guy int he bodyshop said that the insurance companies will only pay out if using NEW and GENUINE parts and as ford no longer sell the bumpers, wings, indicators, fog lights or valences, what choice do i have?

I would try and fix it myself if it means they will write it off, at least it will still be HPi clear. Worked in a bodyshop for 2 years and that is such an easy fix.

i am not quite following you guys, the guy told me that he couldn't source the parts, i then went to the local ford garage (who were actually quite helpful and gave me the best part of an hour of his time) who also agreed that bumpers, wings etc are obsolite.
I realise that i can buy second hand stuff or non-genuine parts, but will the insurance company pay out for these?

You get your car fixed, they save some dough........everyone is happy..
DONT take it back to that prick though......find a decent bodyshop that has no vested interest in your car....
Where in the country are you by the way,i may be able to recommend somebody close to you....

so whats a contract repair? The bodyshop agrees a set price for the repair, the bodyshop can then use whatever parts necesary to fix the car to pre accident standard?
p.s i am in Nuneaton, near coventry
also i dont understand how this bodyshop would benefit from the insurance company writting it off, surely they dont get the chance to keep the car, do they?

The "Rs Enthusiast" in the bodyshop has obviously done a deal with the engineer to get the salvage on your car........Average value of salvage on a vehicle is 20%,maybe a bit less for older cars.......so say they pay you out £4K for your car,the bodyshop guy gets the salvage for £800.....i could repair that car for myself for about £300-400 MAX to a very good standard
That means the guy has got your car, back on the road mint for £1200
See what i mean about him trying to have you over..........how do you think i used to make money on salvage

the insurance company have not sent out an engineer, they told me to take the car to a bodyshop and get a quote for repair, i chose to go to this guy as he had done work on a couple of my mates cars, which were spot on and i knew he had owned a few cossies and RST's in the past, i personally dont think he is trying to do me over, more like he is just not interested in doing the repair

as the majority of insurance companys use non genuine panels and parts for any car over the age of 3 years .
so what ad recommend for u to do mate is take it to a few other garages see what they recoomend , the guy probably aint tryin to pull the wool over ure eyes and have ure car hes probably a genuine hounest descripition as u and the estimator at the bodyshop will know more about the extent of the damage than any know it all on here from a pic
good luck anyway mate hope u get it fixed anyway even if u have to put non genuine panels on it to keep ure car

just tell the insurers you want to keep the car & take a payment in lieu of the damage. do not let the car leave u at all though, once the insurance has it it will be a nightmare to get back. once you have a settlement cheque take it where ever u want to be repaired & pocket the differance

dont let it get writen off, as it will be worth absolutly fook all if you come to sell it....
just get it repaired by somebody good, who can use secondhand bits...no big deal, the insurance will send you a cheque for the repairs if you get them a few quotes.
they wont argue with you for a small claim like this.....be different if it was a £25k car....a grand to an insurance company is nothing, and your repair will be way less than that,
