is it me being silly but if the belt drives the fan its called a fan belt and if it drives the alternmater its called a alternater belt wot do you lot call them

Fan belt is just a hang on from the old days, but I still call them that as everyone knows precisely what you are reffering to then.
Serpentine belts are completely different and multi ribbed, and go in all sorts of directions, all over the place like a SERPENT, hence the name.
