Default keeps cutting out.....HELP....

well i didn't make it to the R/R day at nobles cos the car kept breaking down............BASTARD.........diagnose this.....driving along and the rev counter starts jumping up n down and the power dies....it seems like it's running on 3 cylinders and it cuts out.......u can bump start it in gear but it just gets worse and u have to pull over....it dies......it will start back up and repeat the whole thing again.....if u let it cool/leave it it will be fine for another 30 mile or so.....nothing seems HOT under the bonett and the temp guage if fine....................the car only does this on motoway journeys so it's a cunt to find/fix and as an everyday car to and from work it's fine (10mile each way)............i've got a few ideas/things to check but any advise would be nice......cheers Pete.....

My money is on the crank position sensor and or associated wiring - Slowpoke had exactly the same problem with exactly the same symptoms, worked out that it was the white block plug that the pins had vibrated loose inside and wern't making full contact, so when the engine was revved, the pins vibrated and lost contact

Have you changed the sensor Pete or just checked the wiring? Sounds like a crank sensor problem. Try changing it if you alredy havent.

Also out of daftness mate check your charging voltage of the car when running, just out of interest.
