Default Roll cage material

What size piping is used on roll cages?
Inside and outside diameter, metal thickness?

Thanks

depends on the use of the car (class)and the material. there is no correct answer to your current question We have lots of different sizes and specs depending on what cage we are building.

iv just bought a 309gti and want to strip it and put a cage in. A mate works for a metal engineering firm with pipeb ending tools so he is going to make me one up. no competitions just a laugh and occasional track day

You need to check the type of bender as many are not good enough to do a good enough quality bend in the correct tubing, I would advise 13/4 10g CDS tubing for the main hoop and A-posts and the rest you could spec down to a thinner wall thickness if weight is an issue or just keep the cage at that throughout. The tube comes in 6m lengths anyway.

The tubing I specced makes it legal for most msa class, no point building a cage that aint legal to use in anything. for what you want though you might aswell have a bolt in cage off the shelf.

If you just want a standard cage for a track day car that you may be thinking of competing in future CDS is a a cost effective option and is used by safety devices in their motorsport and 4 x 4 roll cages so must be good
If you want to source cds tube the cheapest i have found with good delivery prices is here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=180206721461
