Default Cheap fuel alternatives for Diesel?

Ive heard loads of things about stuff like biodiesel, vegetable oil, blah blah

I have a Pug 306 XLDT N reg, is there anything I can consider to save me any cash in my 1,500miles driving each week?

Dont mind paying tax on stuff if its gonna save me a few dollars

I think, possibly, that Tabetha mentioned some people run heating oil (Kerosene maybe?) - costing even less than Veg oil.....

Not sure on that, but deffo worth investigation me thinks.

i used to do this on a r reg mondeo 1.8td during winter 3 parts diesel 1 part veg oil and in summer it was 50/50 noticed slightly less speed but no problems other than that. And according to the government unless you use over 2500litres of veg oil a year you dont need to declare it.

The normal engine oil you mention - as in some 10w/40 Castrol or whatever you normally use? Just that and some Kerro and it works?

That's gotta be cheap - like 40p ish a litre at the mo IIRC.

THere's a place down the road selling Biodiesel for 95p/litre. Not much of a saving but better than 108p/litre on the forecourts

i did 27k in my mondeo on veg and diesel mix with no problems until the bottom end let go but i think that was because it was on its last legs anyway and not due to bio-mix.

Veg oil can be got for free if you know who to ask just need to do a bit more filtering

Go LPG

My Audi runs on LPG and it is awesome.....

I get billed monthly...

119litres of LPG cost me £42

119litres of Diesel is about £127

I get 300 mile to £19 of LPG

She looks good, goes ok for a 1.8 and owes me next to fuck all.

Mix heating oil with engine oil???

WHY?

ENgine oil doesn't burn well - hence blue smoke with knacked engines!!

You'll find it blocks the injectors and combustion chambers up (worse on a indirect diesel - like the old Transit engine (2.5 york)) and will wreck the pump as its miles to thick!

Because kerosene is slightly more viscous than diesel (28 sec instead of 32 if my memory serves right) so the engine oil brings it back up to the right viscosity.

Kerosene is also less lubricating than diesel so the added engine oil aids lubrication of the pump.

I'm running 50/50 Veg Oil in a Rover 420SD at the moment. Change the Fuel Filter after about 1000 miles as the Veggie will clean all the system out etc so the filter will be bunged up and it should run fine after that. I've done 3000 in the Rover on Veggie and i've ran 2 Mondeo TD's on it previously no problems

dont advice running oil with lucas pumps, if your bosh you can run reasonable high mixs, in summer i was running 100 percent oil straight from tescos but its a bit dearer now, in winter id put 50 litres of oil in and a tenners worth of diesel.

i have run transits vw tdis our merc g wagon runs on straight oil too. and its totally legal not commiting any offence if you mix up less than 2500 litres per year, no tax needed to be paid
