You wouldnt buy the ecu alone as you need to have an Autronic loom unlike the SECS which I persume uses a cossie loom that should be replaced?

As per my question again, how much do you charge for ecu, mapping, loom and sensors + anything else that may be needed?

Thanks - Sunny.

sunny,

ECU: RETAIL: £520 plug and play for weber (S1/S2 and EEC4 CARS plug and play coming soon)
inc cable+software

SENSORS: As fitted to original cars (can use different type of map sensors e.g 5 bar)

MAPPING: I dont do it but I can supply most states of tune maps (no extra cost)
(some dyno tested depends on customer)

Sunny, Why would you need to replace all the sensors & loom though? Only if the loom is in shit state maybe, but sensors? Also, I believe Simon does cannot include "mapping" as he does not offer a mapping service.

Perhaps this question would be best directed at one of SECS' distributors, such as Motorsport Developments, who would be able to supply the full package; ie ECU, Loom & Sensors (where required) and Mapping.

SECS is simply the manufacturer, as is Autronic.

Both ECU's have comparable features and some features
either/both do not have - if that makes sense.

It is up to the tuner of your engine to decide which way to go
based on experience and of course wallet !

Phil, you want to use a 10 year old loom then fine. I am sure most tuners would recommend this be changed. Regarding the rest of your post...I am well aware what SECS and Autronic are. The reason why I asked these questions was so that a true price comparison could be obtained however at the time didn't know that Simon doesn't map.

Hi Simon, cheers for that. Just trying to get a proper price comparison. Most mappers would charge anywhere between £350 to £500 dependent on the job and who you use + dyno obviously a little more. Cheapest I've heard looms being sold for is around the £350 mark however personally I would choose to use original loom (but thats me).

Thanks - Sunny.

Yeah, good one Spadge.....Don't think I've ever started a Autronic topic before.
Read my post on the first page and you will see that my comments are fair and un-baised + just giving my personal experience. Whats wrong with that?

Besides if Mark did pay me to come on here to big up Autronic I would probably take him up on it as I would be talking sense still + could do with the money for my new engine.

The differences aren't going to be much cost wise when you think about it.

£1500 for Autronic is a good price, and seems very good value for money.

However, it doesn't allow you to build in stages. I've got a new cossie loom. Then I'll buy the ECU. Unfortunately, I don't have the inclination to throw that kind of money at a car in one hit, and the SECS ECU is more affordable for the masses.

Remember, aftermarket management is still a relatively new concept to most cossie/RST people, so it's all in the early stages.

Where's the competition? Both systems are proven, both are good, both have pros and cons. Personal preference is about one of the only deciding factors.

When I finally get round to sorting my shed out, I am going to use a SEC8 ECU, purely because, it's good value for money, but mainly because it has been developed specifically for Fords by a Ford enthusiast, which I think is cool and deserves support.

I think the fact that it has been in some high profile big BHP Cossies for a year now, is proof enough that the product is mature, and reliable. Well done Simon and team again. Simon are you going to make available a ECU loom as i'd be adding all this stuff in on what would effectively be a ERST EFi conversion (Cossie management conversion without the cossie bit ).

Thats taking nothing alway from anyone else's ECU and service, thats just what I personally plan to do

Simon is currently working on that for my Zetec mate!!!! I beleive we are modifying the FRST/XR2i engine loom to work with the S8 ecu, so we can run EECIV sensors for the most part and some cossie sensors where needs be (ie ACT sensor is cossie, TPS is EECIV).

Will keep you posted

Let me know when you have found and developed a solution, that would be very much appreciated. I hope to get my project going next summer hopefully. Just sorting the funds at the moment, and somewhere where I can do it. I am definately gonna do something with it soon, as it will have rusted away soon Cheers!

Gems - does same as autronic cheaper too, as does the motec....

P8 does most of the same too....

My level 8 came free with engine, and car runs, and has a map from a tuner who has never blown an engine up by mapping them.

dingy, Thanks for the clarification

I cant help being paranoid as I get sh*t for all the time even when things are going well.

As for replying to emails, I replied to the last one you sent about ECU connectors.
Please repeat the last mail you sent to me and I will see if its the same one I replied to.

Just for a thought..

New loom and SECS is still about half the price of a autronic...so whats the advantages of either...

Serious post too.
