Default My gearbox trouble at Donno/Brands

A few folks might be aware that in the afternoon session at Brands and during Donno I had gear shift issues which meant that when going up the box (not going down) when I selected 3rd/4th it was a lottery as to whether the car would be in the gear when the clutch was lifted also whilst pulling the lever backwards it would stick in that position and not return to the centre making it even harder for the next gear to be selected, hence the reason why I couldn't make as speedy progress round the tracks as I would have liked...

Yesterday I decided to bite the bullet and see what I had done to the box

To my amazement it was (after removing the box) a simple 10 minute adjustment to the two gears inside the belhousing was all that was neded.

Being a sequential box you either push the lever forwards or backwards to go up or down the box, this in turn rotates a barrel that moves the selectors. It turns out that moving the lever should give say 30deg rotation on the barrel but I was getting 25deg going up and 35deg going down, hence the reason for the misshifts Now the adjustment is sorted the box feels better than ever

Roll on Bedford

Just need to finish building the new Audi motor for the Rover and I'm sorted, two Reyland cars and one undecided.

Shonkey 2 piece Audi valves, that what happened!

Valve head drops off, piston comes up but doesn't have enough room, rod exits through block

New engine has one piece Nimonic (inlet) and Inconel (exhaust) valves, H section rods, big port head and a few other mods incase I decide to hike the power in future..

Wondered why you didn't overtake me at Donington.....

I just thought I'd turned into the Stig , didn't realise you had box gremlins!

Be good to see it back up to full speed at Bedford, can I have a passenger ride (or drive ) please?

I'll try not to hold you up too much when we're both on track!

I imagine your power output of rougly twice what mine makes may help you catch up!

I'll show you around on the warm up lap, then follow you around for the rest of the day eating your dust

The long straights will suit your car well, be a good chance to stretch it's legs... and it's a very forgiving track if you do wonder off the tarmac - many of the corners run off onto flat grass or even smooth ish concrete so it's a great circuit for track day enthusiasts.

Can I get that 2.3 Stroker kit and GT42 twin scroll fitted by 2 weeks time..... hmmmm

Certainly looks that way..... I was 2 seconds quicker in my Boxster than you were in your 517bhp Escort....

MUPPET

http://www.howfast.com/event_results.asp?EventNo=1

I also beat Rob wiles in his old 500bhp 3 door!

That was before you crashed and cruely took away all my driving skills and bottle and left me crippled...

Took the Sierra out yesterday.... did some more launches

hooked up on one... JESUS H CHRIST!!! somehow just got the clutch and revs and slippage and road surface all spot on...

I scared myself silly so then I went and put it away.

Should be all set for Bedford. Although I can't see either car beating the noise now...

Gutted....

with only 330bhp as well!!!!!

Using the data of your times versus BHP output I have made a graph.... from it I can extrapolate your time with your current 700bhp!!!

It seems you will be going around in about 3.40!!!!!

To make it fair... I am going to leave my Boxster and home and bring my mums Fiesta 1.25 Zetec.

Should be a fair battle looking at the times

SEEMS MY MEMORY IS BETTER THAN YOURS....

YOU SPAN THE CAR!

Your brakes were actually finished BEFORE you even arrived if I remember correctly. You were on AP 4 pot 330s on the front and had the wrong pads in....

We were trying to get some new ones off the Bedford guys in the car park before we had even signed on!!!

You are very old though.... and a fair few gearboxes and things have dropped on your bonce with to hair to cushion the blow....

So you are let off!

Martoon, in a all seriousness can I have a drive of the Escort at Bedford please?

I'd like to try the box on track and it would also be a great chance for everyone to see what the Escorts really capable of with a proper driver behind the wheel

There will be Steam coming out his ears now..... he will be trying soooo hard not to bite but the bait just smells and looks toooo goood
