Default No power under load, Please help

I have a 98 escort si 1800 zetec
The cat has gone, removed the down pipe and can see the hole cat rattling around inside the box, have been driving it like this since monday until i get it fixed at weekend, car has been running fine until today. Could this be causing a lack of power when under load? could the cat be blocking the exhaust up?

Wont rev past 4k at all
And on full throttle under load (when driving) engine makes a loud almost induction noise but all the induction is secure
Engine is responsive when stationary up until about 3.5-4k

Please help, i hope its a common problem!

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Yep, whip it off and beat insides out if need to use it.

Think of it as trying to sprint with most of your throat blocked up!

Size of a football pitch in there, is no wonder it goes tits up when it falls apart!

Most cats aren't more than Ł100 for run of mill cars these days.

That noise will be the exhaust (sniffer) rubber pipe that has come off the metal tube in the bulkhead area. Dont bother to put the rubber tube back on until the CAT is fixed / removed, as it will keep blowing off because of pressure build-up due to the restriction.

Mate, unless you want this to happen - either stop driving it till you get a new cat OR smash all the insides of the cat out as soon as!!!!

The cat gets REALLY hot during normal use!! Imagine if it was all blocked up like mine was, and yours is!!

I was beaning up the M40 in my old 1.8 zetec and the brakes went all hard and there was smoke pouring out the engine bay!!

The car had got really sluggish about 40 mins before it happened.

Turned out the cat had completely collapsed like yours!!

Smash the insides out for now!!! Be careful with all the dust and shit as its not too good for you apparently!! (wear a mask and gloves and bin bag it)

don't smash the cat up - they are worth money as scrap intact.

also don't drive with it damaged - you can cause serious engine damage (melted head or pistons and valve damage)

good point we get charged at work by the factors if we don't return the old cats around Ł30 iirc
