Dont worry about the pistions too much, IMO the first part that will let go is the Rods.

Replace with these daddys

In answer to your actual question. is not a lot. As standard (i.e cast pistons and standard rods etc) the CR is too high. If people want to use a standard bottom end i.e on a budget then they tend to go for 1.8zvh as you can run about 1 bar on that as the CR is similar to a standard RST engine.

If you want to go down the 2L route but don't want to spend loads then you can't go far wrong with a set of Vauxhall calbira turbo pistson (Guy on here called PhilM sells uses ones with only a few hundred miles on) quite cheaply. They are good for a lot of horsepower and get the blocked bored for them.

Obviously if money is limitless then there is no end of options.

That would indeed be true if one had proper forged pistons on standard rods but totally untrue on completely standard engine. The pistons would definetly be the first to go.

New they are around Ł400 quid. I think Phil sells them for around 150.

drop him a PM.

Dunno how hard to go from zvh to zetec. I'd imagine your have to unblock all the bits you blocked up which may be a little hard.
