I agree about the complain bit, its a hobby to develop cars and push the boundaries, but you should always do it knowing there will be issues.

The rest though is bollocks, a 28K 500bhp merc that offers very little pleasure when husting it down a B road doesnt in ANY way compare to the fun of a decent modified car IMHO

AMG tuned T/C.....lets you ahve a bit of fun..with foot flat to floor...beleive me Chip drive my merc flat out down b roads knowing you aint gonna crash thru handling ability..is REAL and VERY fast much faster than relying on talent pal....because fear will always block you.

my guess is alot of people like to build them. i guess the buzz is actually hammering a cossy that you have built to ur own spec is much more of a grin factor and a sense of pride rather than hop into a ready built quick car.

I got into it because I bought th best car i could afford and then improved upon it to bring it closer to being exactly what I wanted. There comes a point where Id argue selling up and upgrading to a better base car (unless you have a love affair with a particular model) but Id wager the majority of people with a 40 thousand pound cossie didnt have 40k when they originally bought the car.

Mercedes Benz has the most dealer maintenance issues out of all the manufacturers here. Deffo NOT the most reliable. I'm not a MB basher either I would love to have one lol but only with a full factory warranty and as soon as that's up, I'd get rid of it.

..Talk about take it out of context! ...of course it wont stop you crashing goin too fast round abend..what i am saying is you can go flat out without worrying the arse is gonna fly out...when you got 8pot brakes you dont worry about stopping either with brake assist ....I can deffo drive faster in this than any other car i had..bad really and dangerous as i am constantly goin over grip levels....because i dont have to fear it.

Of course do 100mph and come to a sharp bend..no one is gonna make it

Most people on here could outbreak that car in their motor, 8pots are great but you are still on a very finite contact patch with the road and are lugging 2 tonnes about, thats a lot of momentum to lose.

I dont think many people are *that* bothered about the backend coming out either TBH, its hardly the end of the world if you are used to it and if you are used to your car too you normally know how far you can push it before that happens anyway.

The fact is people can afford £40-50k on a cossie due to the fact an ammount like that is probably spent over a period of say 10 years so it's not too bad. Especially as that would probably include all the running costs too.

As opposed to spending £30k in one go on a car to then have to spend more on running it.

Obviously thats not always the case but you get the point.

I actually agree with you 100%.

For MOST of these cars that are modified, generally you can buy an existing car that does the job far better for less money, and with more class.

What you lose out on in sheer "rawness" of the car, you gain in the fact that it tends to be reliable, and as you say, you can drive up outside the nice hotel, or take the missus out in it without feeling like a right chavston!

Why dont you go to the Forums where all these normal people hang out Phil & not come on a Performance Forum & tell us we are all wrong & a Hearse is what we all need. Have driven Mercs my Mrs had one as a company car its great, quiet, quiet & a bit more quiet & so boring its untrue. Yours is probably quiet, boring & stately fast, which only ticks one box in my mind.
My Vectra & Proton do me nicely as my main modes of Transport & when its running my Cossie is more fun than all the new Mercs in the country. They once made a decent car the SL300 back in 1955 get one of those Phil cos that ticked all the boxes.

I think People only complain about their modded cars when they pay good money to fit bits that should do a job & then it doesn't. I know thats what annoys me. I do expect to have issues as nothing is 100 % reliable when you start messing with it.

A friend use to work for Ferrari as a mechanic & the stories he could tell you would make you laugh.

Half the fun is feeling like you have made it what it is not some million dollar car company. Hopefully it will be reliable & fun @ the same time. Lol.
