Default Do You Think There Will Ever Be A Diesel Rally Car?

I was reading in another thread, someone mentioned rally cars need lots of torque? Would a 300bhp diesel engine not produce allot more torque than the equivalent petrol engine? Or would it not work because of the narrower power band?

Thanks, Benni.

There will be eventually in the larger rallys. SCOOB. There's loads competing in the lesser rallys.

WTCC had diesel SEATs running successfully last season and they held their own against a lot of the BMWs.

yea vw & skoda both do deisel rally cars, cant see why they wont
become more popular, get good torque with less bhp which is what
most rally car engines produce

If the Le Mans 24 hour race is anything to go by then it will be a success. Both Audi and Peugeot run diesel power and they are fast. Boring as hell though with no noise, just a whistle as it goes past.

I recall a conversation i had with an old American friend of mine some time back in 2000.

Upon letting him listen to a BMW straight 6 2.5 Diesel engine (it sounded quite petrol like when revved) i then explained to him that Diesels are the future.

He disagreed.

What does he know eh?

people dont think these diesel cars are running normal pump diesel at 105.9p a ltr, they are NOT!

one of my lecturers is in motorsport and was at the lemans with these 2 audi's, they spilt loads of diesel and it evaporated very fookin fast!

but yeah turbo diesels i would say are on par with the equivelent power non-turbo petrol

as if all the other cars at lemans were running on pump fuel

turbo diesel technology is evolving way quicker than the equivalent petrol engine technology

Do you think a large passenger ship could ever hit an iceberg and sink?

Fantastic response, I expected to be laughed at. The Diva, do you have any information, spec of the VW? Thanks.

I agree diesels are the future, my friends will wipe the floor with my petrol, mine has no advantage what so ever and he still does twice the mpg.

Neil Simpson was majorly involved in the development of the Golf Tdi rally car and it was very competitive....

Ony to catch up with the evolution of the petrol engine that has preceeded it :s

All you are saying is we are now developing something quickly that we have previously ignored

FYI I have a diesel and it is the future

It is also fucking boring

Stu can you explain for simpletons like me why we cant have diesels that rev hard and make power at revs? Is it to do with the way diesel is burnt under compression?
