I've currently got this problem with my mondeo, don't think its caused by high mileage, mines done 70k (hardly mega miles for a diesel) It's a common problem apparently.

Very prone to the dual mass flywheel breaking up, usually start off by getting noisy then gradually worse until the flywheel breaks up internally then you have no clutch !!!!

Had this problem on a Peugeot 407 couple of weeks back and was an absolute nightmare of a job to take the box out !!!!

Mondeo's are nice and easy to do though when you have the subframe dropped down out of the way.

as all of these have said /\

But this might help you in a price for the parts , if you go through the menus to find a DMF and clutch.
