Default shocked at price of ARP studs for 2wd saff!! help required!

Hi All,

need to get the bits together to do the head gasket on my 2wd saff.

just foned Burtons to get prices for the bits!!!

Group A head gasket = £70

Rocker cover gasket = £20ish

thats all ok its the head bolts that are gonna hurt!!!!

set of ARP studs = £165

the only other option they gave was normal head bolts at £3.50 each!!!

so thats £14 for bolts or £165 for the ARP studs!!!!

big difference in price!!

is there any other options in the middle? or are they the only options?

trying to do it on a budget not the best time after xmas!!!!

anyone????

please!!!!!

Try Matt Lewis mate!!

Oh & how did you get to the £14 for standard headbolts - 10 x £3.50 = £35 surely!!!

my bf not long ago sold his 358 bhp 2wd saff he is a mechanic by trade he rebuilt his engine due to a blown head gasket he used standard head gasket and bolts and never had any problems with the engine after the rebuild and he was running a strong 24psi of boost he had the car 6 months after the rebuild and drove it hard and then sold it still with no problems

LOL

i thought there was only 4!! (tosser)

so the car is running 20-23psi, 3bar greys (i think) and about 280-300BHP.

you think the standard bolts are ok then? My mechanic says steer well clear of the standard bolts. Burtons say steer clear of the standard bolts (but they would cos they want me to do £165 down em )

last thin I want to do is fuck the car up.

advice on the pros and cons of each type please......

IE if i go for the standard bolts then will I potentially be looking a total rebuild if they break? or not, just another set of standards???

I need to order these today so your comments are muchly appreciated!!

cheers peeps!!

Yep standard bolts only stay away from ARP
As said they don't stretch-expand so as the head get hot and expands ever so slightly they give the block serious grief..

If you are still in the process of builing it and are just trying to make up your mind about bolts etc, I went for the ARP conrod bolts just because I wanted to be extra safe, and they are re-useable

I'd get the block wire rung and use a grp A head gasket, but thats just me (It also works out very cheap this way and can still handle good power and is very relaible

I've had no probs with mine

Whats the difference to proper long studs please?

Presume its the different size threads that are put in the block is it that make proper long studs better?

Genuine head bolts are best in this application. Avoid ARP head bolts.

ERRRR no idea i suppose the difference is that proper long studs are just that LONG and are held from threads made deep in the block
with the other 4 being standard bolts (assuming 6 long studs) are being used
