When did you grow out of messing with cars?
Spent most of my childhood dreaming of owning quick cars, now I've owned a few, the last one got sold this afternoon after 3 months and I've had enough now.
Just lost all interest and cant be arsed with it all, anybody else moved on and settled for an A-B car? and at what age?
I recently had a quick drive of a nice RST and it made me shudder to think I used to own and drive one everyday, I wouldnt last a week in one these days.

I think like that being a mechanic the last thing i can be arsed with is rebuilding cars week in week out in my spare time!!
But......... after owning a 2.0dti Astra for a year the car bug is starting to return again
But then the ultimatum of getting rid of my bikes to pay for a car comes into play
I,ve said all along the 1st time i get hurt bad on a bike that will be it but it,s not happened yet

Good point, I think for me I sold up as I needed a nice car for work, and wanted my house.
Now I have both of those I would like another RS, but then really stuck on the thought that i wouldn't really use it what is the point on paying tax insurance MOT on a car that you only use on a Sunday if it is nice out
So, I am thinking maybe i will buy a project so that i can play about with it, but, will I get frustrated with it as I wont be able to take it out for a blast when it is in bits and is a money pit.
I suppose I could be an ok average one and rag it for a few months before selling it off again

I'm getting to the point of getting shot of my two and buying something like a new M3, I'm getting a bit old for this shit now (30) and need a bit of comfort as well as speed! Anyway, it's not like ten years ago, when I was down Southend all the time in my S2, or driving aimlessly around Northampton town centre over & over again with my mates!

i think you just get wiser as you get older.
i spent all my youth ragging cars around and spending all my money on them.
then went through throwing all my money at cossies, trying to go as fast as i could afford!
now realise its much less stress to own an m5!power,reliability,luxury.
still like the cossies,rs turbo's,evo's,imprezas and still like driving them-but probably wouldnt realistically own one for myself again.

It's not about growing out of cars, it's about moving on and finally realising there are better cars out there and not dreaming about a badge like it was a football team and you owed it something. I would NEVER own an RST again, although I thought it was the dogs at the time
Although at one time I never thought I'd own a Beemer, they were shit compared to my RST, along with Scoobies, Evos, .....

erm,,, well i dont do work on my cars like clutches anymore,,, i got a garage who does the shite jobs for me
as for buying old cars that are fast but shite to drive,, NO FUCKING CHANCE
i own a BMW 325,,, its slower than triggers broom,,, but its nicer inside to drive compared to a older car
next car will either a M5 or some sort of powerfull and comfy car
as for wasting cash on cars,,,,,, i admit im a little reluctant to do that these days due to my last cossie being nicked
though i still go out clubbing with my mates
my mates for a CLK320,, now thats a automatic ( gay bastard) but its VERY nice to drive,,,, being auto its like playing playstation on my sofa
i miss the cossie power though big time,,, but then its a little like getting back with a bird who cheats on you as she makes the best sunday dinner
ill addapt to having pub lunch on sundays and a bird who looks after me instead thanks

I'm lucky enough to have a nice bike a BMW touring as my daily driver and have only had my 3 Door for a couple of months now, still love tinkering around in the garage to keep me out of mischief. Having been in hospital most of this year has put a different view on life for me...hence the Cosworth and I'm getting married AGAIN !!! I know I should know better.....now living life to the max with a new saying to follow "Only dead fish go with the flow" I know it sounds a bit cheesy but rather that than just slip quietly away with nothing to look forward to except ear and nose hair and slippers!!!

I'm 20.
Although I like these cars, i've already owned them and have been put in fast 'boy'd up' cars. I wouldn't own another RS - I'd look like a tit!
Escort yes, 3 door yes.. the rest... hmmmmmm
M3's, Mercs, porsche's even seat's and VW's get my tits hard now.

In my time i have had a couple of xr2's an xr3i a white rs2000 custom then for some stupid reason i started driving volvo's, of which my last was the xc70. Now that i'm in my 40's i realise how much i miss the old hot hatch and with the introduction of the verve ( stupid name by the way ) i bought this in march this year as i realise it may be the last of the small nippy fords. Not to mention, that if ford cease production of the fiesta as we know it then it may reflect in the motors future value.

Been messing with modified cars for 43 years & am buying bits for an assault on mine in 2008, have no idea when I will get over it .
Had a break of 8 years when my kids were born & then bought myself a Lotus as a 40th birthday present & it started all over again, hopefully I will have given this caper up by the time im 70 but it aint looking good .

Grew out of it a few years ago... Just can't be arsed with it all anymore! That and I wanted to save up for house depsoit aswell, and whilst I still dream of owning fast/quick/powerfull cars, Cossies and RST's ain't on the list anymore
Lets see - comfort, air con, power steering, modern creature comforts, or shonky old Ford Escort with none of the above You decide
To be honest, I would still love to have an EsCos, or a minty mint S1, but at the first sign of stuff breaking on them I'd shove it in the garage never to be driven again as I simply cannot be fucked with repairing old cars like I did as a youngster.....

hopefully once my mk2's finished and has a proper engine in it!
but that's for racing so kind of justified.
can't be arsed with day to day cars.. can't really use them fully on the road so as long as it's comfy and reasonably quick then that's fine!

I still own my XR4is and I'm getting an urge to finish the unregistered one, but it certainly isn't a passion like it used to be.
I walked away from a new ST200 when I still worked for Ford and was entitled to a very good discount, because the suspension was just too hard for me to enjoy day-to-day.
Since then, the fastest car I've had was either the Alfa 147 (yeah, right - not fast but very quick!), or the Vectra 3.0 CDTI.
