i know 192.com will let you search the old electoral rolls like last years it just wont give you all the full details for free but will certainly point you in the right place to see if they are on it

 

There are TWO electoral registers, UNEDITED and EDITED.
You may not find who you are looking for, as the law provides ANYONE that does not wish to be listed that option.
In addition everyone also has the LEGAL RIGHT to be known as anything they want on the register, I am listed as a different first and last name as is my other half.

surely if thats the case anyone can invent a name or use someones name and enter it on t he register and apply for credit card etc?

 

The unedited one is the one credit reference agencies and mortgage companies use. The edited one is sold off to marketing comapnies.

 

even 192.com isn't free anymore, used to be able to accrue credits by registering on stupid stuff.. now you have to pay!

I went on a site once where for Ł3.95 you could do as many searches as you wanted in an hour.... can't for the life of me think what it was called though.... but that did give addresses.

You can, but it is illegal. Everybody on the list pays council tax. If you don't fill in the electoral role forms then you wont be on the list, but if you apply for credit then you are more than likely be turned down as the credit agencies cannot verify where you live.
In relation to the mail boxes I rent them if you are interested. It's one of my businesses.

There is a lot of bollocks being written here.
Read carefully, the council operate two ELECTORAL lists.
The unedited one must have SOMBODIES name on it at each addrees that is occupied by those of age, APART FROM THOSE WHO ARE EXEMPT FROM THE LSIT!!
ANYONE CAN BE CALLED ANYTHING THEY WANT ON THE UNEDITED list, they can use the name of thier next door neighbour/dog/cat/horse if they wish.
THIS IS NOT ILLEGAL IN ANY WAY AT ALL, if it were the councils would not do it!!
When I get my ELECTORAL ROLE FORM around every four years or whatever it is, I confirm my sudonym, ie my FALSE name(and other halfs).
I am on housing benefit/council tax benefit etc so think they might have something to say if it were illegal, and it would not be hard to spot!!
All you do is to tell the council your(real name) is Joe Bloggs or whatever it is BUT you want to be listed as ?(whatever you want).
You can also elecet NOT to appear on the edited list, which as said is sold to companies etc.
My mate is listed as FATHER CHRISTMAS on the electoral role, hands up how many think it's real ?, I know him as PETER ?
There are lots of people who do not wish thier details to be made available, if they were against thier wishes, THIS WOULD BREACH THE DATA PROTECTION ACT, this WOULD be illegal, as every council knows as they employ a DATA PROTECTION OFFICER, (some are not doing very well at the moment!!)
The fact that you may or may not pay council tax has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE NAME YOU WANT ON THE LIST.
I have not been on the list for 25+years.
