There is a lot of bollocks being written here.
Read carefully, the council operate two ELECTORAL lists.
The unedited one must have SOMBODIES name on it at each addrees that is occupied by those of age, APART FROM THOSE WHO ARE EXEMPT FROM THE LSIT!!
ANYONE CAN BE CALLED ANYTHING THEY WANT ON THE UNEDITED list, they can use the name of thier next door neighbour/dog/cat/horse if they wish.
THIS IS NOT ILLEGAL IN ANY WAY AT ALL, if it were the councils would not do it!!
When I get my ELECTORAL ROLE FORM around every four years or whatever it is, I confirm my sudonym, ie my FALSE name(and other halfs).
I am on housing benefit/council tax benefit etc so think they might have something to say if it were illegal, and it would not be hard to spot!!
All you do is to tell the council your(real name) is Joe Bloggs or whatever it is BUT you want to be listed as ?(whatever you want).
You can also elecet NOT to appear on the edited list, which as said is sold to companies etc.
My mate is listed as FATHER CHRISTMAS on the electoral role, hands up how many think it's real ?, I know him as PETER ?
There are lots of people who do not wish thier details to be made available, if they were against thier wishes, THIS WOULD BREACH THE DATA PROTECTION ACT, this WOULD be illegal, as every council knows as they employ a DATA PROTECTION OFFICER, (some are not doing very well at the moment!!)
The fact that you may or may not pay council tax has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE NAME YOU WANT ON THE LIST.
I have not been on the list for 25+years.
