VIDEO OF MY NEW ENGINE RUNNING ON PAGE 2 :D

Yesterday
Got up to the workshop we are borrowing for the week at about 1am, unloaded the car, pumped up the beds, and then started quickly wire brushing the worst off the engine bay, it was starting to get badly stone chipped in places and rusting, so we decided to just blitz the whole lot with black brush-on hammerite.
Not managed to get every nook and cranny just yet, but have got the main areas covered.

After:

Today Steve came round with my bare engine that had been at his place, and Philip turned up with the rosejointed rear steering arms that he has made to my specs.
I finished off the adapters for fitting the Mk4 astra struts onto the calibra bottom arms, Ali and Philip got on with assembling the mk4 struts onto the rose jointed top mounts and getting them onto the car to trial fit.
Steve cracked on with fitting a belt kit etc to the engine, and then we fitted up the RS200 inlet manifold to it.
Pics of progress:

When's the target on the road date?

Target on the road date is ahead of 2nd of feb.
Ive done more work on my car than anyone else has, by a massive margin, including designing how everything is going to work, both with the suspension and with the engine, but its a pretty lonely hobby if you just shut yourself in the garage on your own, so its far more fun with a few good lads around too![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)
Anyway, next update.
Doug (garage19) came over with my manifold earlier this evening, and we've assembled the engine a bit more now to start measuring up for clearance on various things.
Starting to look properly hardcore now I reckon![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)

That manifold looks great Chip.
I'll have to admit to being one of those who now won't be making it down, after todays trackday I'm fooked.
Hopefully you'll get everything done

Turbo is up high cause there isnt anywhere else for it to go, with the new larger turbo there isnt enough room for it between the engine itself and my drivers seat without causing massive heat problems, up there its not going to cause any problems once Ive made some heat shields for around it.
Drain is going back into the standard location in the block.

Thats a shame, as its a bit of a struggle getting the car lifted up over the engine with less people.
Is gav still planning on coming down do you know, as he has a couple of bits I need for it still.

Can someone do me a favour and copy-paste this update onto my thread on PF for me too, its being gay and wont let me on it, orange "safeguard" which is meant to be turned off on my phone is saying PF is unsuitable content for some reason even.
Right, latest update
Engine is now in, which is a massive psychological barrier to be past tonight.
We went for the "get loads of lads to lift the car up high, whack some axle stands under it to keep it there, then drag the engine under it and lift it up into place" method.

![](https://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/chip-3door/4m2/engine-in-3.jpg)
Then we set about getting the manifold and turbo and exhaust on to see what mods we need.
![](https://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/chip-3door/4m2/exh-man-on.jpg)
![](https://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/chip-3door/4m2/exh-on.jpg)
![](https://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/chip-3door/4m2/engine-in-rearview.jpg)
![](https://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/chip-3door/4m2/engine-in-side.jpg)
Based on this Ive now designed the new exhaust for it, so its over to garage19 in the morning with this one to get it reshaped to my specs
Next thing we looked at was the engine positioning, ive never been a fan of how it sits, the front sits slightly forward, so we decided to modify the rear frame to drop the back mount down 50mm and level it off, with the bonus of improving the centre of gravity slightly too.
By sheer chance, Id invited Dave over with his LET nova today for me to check the fuelling out for him, and after doing that he stayed around to help out and is a bit of a demon with a mig welder, so that was a real bonus on the timing of everything.

![](https://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/chip-3door/4m2/frame-mod-2.jpg)
Next we're going to finnish making the astra/calibra hybrid suspension up, hopefully get another update on in a few hours showing progress but we need to be up at about 7am to get over to dougs so we're only going to work till about 3am or so tops
