Nice work, XE's are great engines ... Chip, have you got something to support the turbo, as I can see over time and heat cycles/vibration etc the manifold cracking with all that weight hanging off it ...

Chip,

I'm very very impressed ! ! !

Was jus gonna ask bout some sort of turbo damper for the same above reasons !

Only thing I can see that I don't like is the exhaust right next to the inlet samco on the throttle body Heat management gonna be your next trick ? ? ? As thats after the cooler & won't be cooled before entering the manifold !

What turbo is that ?

Let me know if you still need that exhaust cos I got it all now & let me know when you venturing out to pod cos I'll come along !

Had quite a productive night in the end after abandoning the idea of getting any kip.

Me and Phil have knocked up some engine mounts while ali got on and drilled the tapers out of the struts and set about assembling them with the PTFE spacers that I made the other day, and then fitted the steering arms up to them.

Then Phillip cracked on with tidying up the loom and checking all the connections on it to identify which ones will need remedial action.

Then we refitted the struts to the car and got it back onto its wheels, still need to fabricate mounting points for the rear steering arms.

Great work guys, I'd be wary of the ptfe spacer though, I've known ptfe to crack with age. It maybe worth swapping it for steel or bronze one.

Good Project should have the exhaust comming straight out the pass rear window with e back turned tail pipe that wway you wont get any heat soak in the inlet as it looks quite close to it in the picks and i imagen its going to get rather warm and an Air intake feed in the same place but on the drivers side direct cold feed to that rather large turbo

Loving all the suspention bits and bobs too

No update on the nova today yet sadly, we went to go up to see doug to get the exhaust changed, on the way ali managed to delay us a couple of times by getting lost (lack of sleep plus he's more use to the highlands of scotland than london!) and then we had a blowout at bout 85mph which was fairly interesting, then we remembered robbing the jack out of the audi the night before when remaking the engine mounts for the nova to use to move the engine left and right, so ended up waiting around for ages for doug to come and rescue us, by which time it was too late for him to do any TIGing for us as he had a family dinner to attend.

So we decided to roll by steveboyslim's and pick up a different spec loom and inlet for the calibra that we have also been working on at the same time as the nova when we have had a few spare mins.

Got back to the workshop at about 5 or 6, I'd only had around 6 hours sleep since xmas day so I took the chance to get my head down while Ali and Philip cracked on with making up the mounts that I wanted on the rear wishbones to tie off the new steering arrangement.
Ali woke me up at about 7pm or so when I'd had about an hours kip and apparently was met with a torrent of abuse and when they commented they had nothing to do I shouted at them "has it got 500 fucking horse power yet you cunts? if not fucking get on with it" and rolled over and went back to sleep.

My motivational speech obviously worked cause I awoke at about 9pm to find the nova sat back on its wheels again and tracked up by eye well enough for our purposes at the moment with the new steering arm joints welded in place

We decided to chuck a few hours straight at the calibra, and have swapped over the loom and inlet manifold now, so just got to do the intake piping and it should be nearly ready to kick it in the bollocks and see if it fires up.

Going to get started on the nova now tonight to get the loom onto it and route the pipework from the turbo straight into the inlet as we havent got the chargecooler finished yet as its still up at doug's, then hopefully tomorrow we can see if that will fire up at last, as sunday is going to be the last day we have now to work on it as Max needs his workshop back so im going to trailer the cars away again on monday.

Just kicked the calibra in the bollocks and it fired and spluttered, sounds like the lifters need a bit of time to fill up after being not ran for so long but at least the fucker fired

Done some more work on the nova now, got the loom onto it, so thats going to be ready to try and fire up tomorrow if we can manage to source a couple of bits that we are still missing, like an oil filter takeoff on the pump.

Cant really see a lot in the pics TBH but here is the loom in place, still needs a bit of tidying but more or less now there, and all the connectors that needed extending have been done so its all plugged up as it should be.

With regards to the comments about the compressor direction and exhaust, the exhaust is going to be dropped down and the compressor will be rotated to get a more suitable pathway, for now though, we just wanted to get it directly into the turbo just so we can fire it up, its NOT going to be used like that, its purely while we are finishing it off.

No mate, that an idle control valve, although it just so happens its the same one we would use if fitting our ALS system to it

Yes mate, we did this in uxbridge, hard to believe its basically all over now, we only started 75 hours ago!

Funny thing is, its probably going to be one of the SLOWEST cars at bedford, as on the chipset im on im limited to around 300bhp until I can get it over to the autronic and mapped, so its going to be barely any quicker than it was on the old engine, but with LOTS of lag.

There is still quite a few bits to do, but im VERY confident its going to handle a lot better than previously, which, to be fair, isnt hard, LOL

There is almost no dynamic toe now, which was the major driving force behind the whole project really, as it was ridiculous before.
