She was a supporter of democracy. It is true that she was removed from power during due to allegations of corruption but she was never brought to trial.

I personally think it is a sad day for Pakistan, democracy and any chance of stability in that region.

the whole of pakistan is corrupt, bhutto herself was very rich and no doubt they were ill gotten gains, I visited pakistan in 1997 and found it to be a virtual 3rd world country bar the big houses that the very rich owned all had guards and huge walls round them,
My parents lived in karachi from 95 to 98 whilst my dad worked on a chemical plant project hence my visit, my mam was stopped at the roadside whilst alone in the car one day by the police(she had sent the driver home for the day then ran out of fags ) they charged her with driving alone and took all her money on the spot!!

my family has lived in that neck of the woods from as far back as we can trace, around about the 1100's so i think i know more about the politics of the area than you
seeing as there have been "troubles" for a whole heap of that time and the partition didn't help things along, politics and what goes in in such a fairly backward part of the world tends to make the residents a bit wiser to what's going on than the outsider who can only read about it in the papers or belileves the shit they are fed by the media
she went into politics not having a clue, that was the first problem, secondly she was female and that put loads of people against her, and then she was blanketed in contresery for the past 30 years, father executed for being a dodgy git, brother execusted for being a dodgy git, other brother found dead in a hotel room, obviously somehitng dodgy going on there as well, husband spending the best part of 10 years banged up for coruption and money laundering

she wanted to be the big "i am" and thought that the west would have her back, not realising the west didn't really want to have anything to do with her and only wanted her to front "democracy, the american way" for them
she took this as the west providing backing for her with security as well and decided to put her damn fool self back into the firing line

the locals all expected her to be terminated sooner rather than later

Bhutto is inside a bullet proof car. She decides the wisest thing to do is hang out the top of the sunroof, and making herself a target. If she had remained in the car, would she have been shot then?

From the pictures, it doesn't look like the security is tight in area at all so a committed sniper could have got a couple of shots off from distance too.

As stupid as he is, I couldn't see Dubya hanging out the top of his car during a journey in a motorcade.
