They were run in the BRSCC Ford ST Series as a controlled tyre this year.

Kevin Shortis runs the series so the new ones would be best coming from Ford Racing UK

There are far better tyres out there for the money - especially to run in February anyway

Dunlops are the only slick in the size needed to fit mk2 fiesta's, Avon's used to make them for the fiesta challage before Dunlop took over the series.

So Avon stopped making them when they lost the championship deal and threw away all the moulds did they Dan ???

They are still widely used in Oval sealed surface racing

When i brought my dunlops nearly 18months ago, i found 1 set of 5 New Avon's left in the right size, but as they manufacture date was 2001 and i didn't fancy the risk of the rubber for the sake of £60 saving,so i got the dunlops, and i rang every motorsport tyre place i could find.

I was going to say ! there is plenty of slicks available to fir a Fiesta, novas are no different.

As mentioned there not cheap though which is why I'd stick with 888's

Under £250 delivered now if you know where to look

888's are to big for a mk2 fiesta. (195/50/15)

similar to 195/45/15's are needed, which the dunlop's are.

They are cross ply, design'd for light kit cars, and not design'd to run lots of camber or castor, as well as not slicks, so not what i was after.

as well as the same price as dunlops.

i cant run 195/50's on mine,

due to rear hitting arches once lowing jack, and fronts touch on anything other than straight, due to my castor and ride hieght.
and thats with fully roller and modified arches.

Mk had to sell his 888's as excessive scrubb.

Dave, i'm not sure about. but know he used to run Avon's semi's and now runs dunlops same as mine.

Thats a road tyre profile, and 888's are a road tyre.

Have you tried many competition tyres Dan, as they are sized different remember.

A 55 or 555 comp is not the same as a 50 road

Yeah, i tried all motorsport tyre places i could find, (not kwik fit and ATS lol)

the dunlops are the only one's of a similar size @ 175/555/15, which are with in 3 mm of the 195/45/15 road profile in hieght and width.

They are not the only ones by a long way.

For a weather risky February trackday what about tying some Avon ACB-10's in 7.0/22.0/15

(If your not sure thats close to a conventional 185/45/15 profile)

Not a true slick but for the time of year it would be more advisable from a safety point of view and would offer possibly massivly more grip than the 888's as they are a competition tyre but still road legal (ish).

Of course you wont get these from Kwik fit/ATS places either lol, but I have seen some advertised for £30 second hand.

To save you googleing it here is some info

http://7faq.com/owbase/ow.asp?Chapte...on+Avon+ACB10s

And places like this offer them for sale

As dan has said above.

i tried running the toyo r888's in 195/50/15.........i managed to chop the front arches to stop rubbing but the rears still rub under hard cornering, so il just use them at pod etc for straight line stuff,

i have just bought some AVON ACB10's in 195/45/15 (7.0/22.0/15) second hand for £45 a set but i have never tried these tyres personally will the camber on my wheels be a big problem? i run 1.5 deg neg fronts & 1.25 deg neg rears

after speaking to pf dave at brands track day, he now runs the dunlop slick 175/555/r15 as he said there the closest to a 195/45/15, he had no problems all day and kicked my arse in the corners etc so thats why id like to try them, as they have been tried on an xr2 and DONT rub, expenive yes but seems he said there worth it,

but any others you lot can recomend in the same size im interested in...slicks and wets

http://www.motorsportparts.co.uk/tyres.htm list;

Michelin 19/57/15 Med Slicks £35ea
I reckon thats the way i am going to go for Bedford

Dunlops are the only slicks that will fit on my car.

i know how slick sizes measure.

And as i said before Avon's, are not suited to what i want.

Marc,

1.5 camber is fine on the avons, i think they are designed for 1-2' camber.

sorted then, i always found it very strange why peple go for the very low thing, when in reality they make the worst handling car.
