Default what battery does a cosworth use

what amp hours battery do you need to crank a cossie from cold,14A/hours 26 or 38 recommended, whats a std item anyway? and what can I get away with using. Im using a Varley racing battery.

The std item is an 097 battery mate about 660 cca iirc

i got fed up replacing the 095s every year so just bought an old style transit battery (097)

In terms of batteries, big is best

30 will be fine if it gets used often.

Only reason to go to a 40 is if you have hot cranking issues.

Do NOT use a CALCIUM battery in a cossie, the charge can go way too high for these when the battery is a bit flat, and it will kill them.
These are designed for a much gentler controlled charge as on newer cars.

OK thanks for that, not heard of YBs having hot cranking issues before though, it being a varley red top battery its OK to go flat anyhow isnt it? I am just reading up on battery spec now so will know what I want soon

The only thing they dont like is boost charging (that will kill them) a slow low amp trickle can often bring the back to full health.
