Anybody give me a hand - Ignition Amplifiers
I'm after an ignition amplifier pretty smartish for my 500. I'm on about one of the after market jobbies to give me a better, fatter spark so I can run without these fooooking misfires.
I need to get one on and in the car for next week as I intend to get the car on the rollers with some major boost.
I was looking at a Jacobs Pro Race system, but they have now been taken over by another company and I cant seem to find the systems now.
Any help on tracking one down or a suitable alternative?

It's Ok @ 28psi but anything over that and it starts to misfire again.... same old shit (These cars come with free misfires) different day! I need to get the boost up much higher than that else it aint worth me even getting it on the rollers, hence the need for an ignition upgrade. Which considering the Jacobs system was over £400, it's a bit of a dear RR run!! But needs must and it's gotta be right.
I should of bought the foooker when I could get hold of them a couple of months back.... but you know me, takes months to get anything sorted! lol

i dont understand why you really need to run an aftermarket system as a few people before you have had no miss fires with the same boost!
what have you tried so far?

Bill,
Cheers for that I will give them a call tomorrow.
Unless I can get it sorted by the weekend, the thing will just stay in the garage now until next June. I'm an impatient fooker and when I make my mind up to actually get something done it needs to be done that day, else I lose interest and leave it for months again (which happened last time as the units were on back order for the US)

I think both Rod and Dan had the Jacobs system - as far as I remember, one had good results, the other didn't.... might be worth a call to Rod in case he isn't using his anymore on his new spec?

Simon,
I was told they were not worth the bag they come in as a standard coil was just as good.... but i'm open to solutions if it would work.
Gareth,
I was always warned from the outset that I may experience ignition problems. Im sure I could solve the issue by running a much smaller plug gap, but to me thats not solving the long term issue.
Tiff,
Shut the fook up about my msport plug leads!!!!!!

Just vaguely remember one of the two didn't get the results they wanted, tbh thought it was Dan and something to do with the leads more specifically, but my memory ain't what it used to be....

Bill,
I did that when the units were on back order and he had sold it on, but said they were awesome bits of kit and he never had a single problem after it was fitted!

EDITED cos you slipped another post in - Shaun, there were some issues with 2wd fitment 909 leads due to the angled connectors - try Beru originals or the 909 straight 4wd leads and cap?

I spent about 3 hours on it today (which actually meant it was on the road - heaven forbid!!!). Fitted a GRP A Coil and new spark plugs... that took 20 minutes and then it took another 2hrs 40mins in test driving and continually regapping and testing 2 sets of plugs!
Now have the boost up to 35psi Which is alright in 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th but once I am in 5th it is misfiring again That would indicate a load issue. Now I do realise I am asking a shitload from the standard ignition system to enable me to run 35psi on a T4.... but it would be nice.
Gonna take the car to a secret location ( ) tomorrow, to get an oscillascope on it to see if I can track the problem down..... if I can I will also run it up on the rollers at the same time. Worse comes to the worse I will have to run it up at 2bar.

Tiff,
I will be able to find out if the leads are breaking down tomorrow, but I really can't see it being the leads as they are the straight ended jobbies and not the 2WD gimpy ones (which were the ones that had a few problems). As long as it sorts the problem out I don't give 2 rat shits what the cause is, or what it costs..... it's just this constant gas thats giving me the hump.

Shaun,
1) Run a seperate live from teh battery to the ignition coil, use the existing live to trigger the relay.
2) Run a decent earth from the plenum cover to the battery negative.
That will sort any voltage deficits you have. If you have any worries during your day and want a second opinion or just want to shout.. give me a call pal.

Whilst i remember, check the alternator output is good as well mate.
Get a multimeter on teh battery and run it into the car. You may be experiencing a cooked alternator mate.... the longer shes had boost for, the worst the voltage gets. Check her ON BOOST IN 5th.. not at idle
