Sorry for another one of these posts but I need knowledge ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Right, I got Virgin cable broadband. Coax pokes out the ground, travels up the wall, foes through it and plugs into this box;
![](https://i12.tinypic.com/6jnp9wg.jpg)
Black cable is from outside going IN, white cable is coming OUT and goes to my broadband modem.
What I want to know is very simple. Do I need this box/splitter thingy? Can I ditch it and join the two f-type ends together with a coupler (like THIS) or do I need this splitter for a specific reason? I want to remove it, and join the black and white cables, and hope my broadband still works![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
I pressume it's only there to allow two outputs, one the wall plate cover thingy it says TV and RADIO, and the broadband cable is plugged into the one marked TV.
Hopefully someone knows

It can't be seperating it from the TV signal as it's plugged into the TV signal output ![Pthbbbb](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile045.gif)
Nah, I was worried it might be seperating it from the FM signal, but Maplin have these connectors for fookin 89p, so I'll go get one from them 2morrow and swap it out, see if it works... If it does it will help as I don't have room to run a second coax cable from behind it and out the wall box, and I can't find a twin input twin output wall plate, only diplexer wall plates (one input, twin output)

Yeah think thats what I'll do, just hope it works!
Was just hoping someone would pop on and say "yeah I install these for a living, it will work fine" or "yeah I install these for a living, nah, won't work sorry"
Well I wasn't hoping for the latter, but you know

Thrush i have a ntl box in the bedroom and ive removed the connector in your picture and it works fine, Now i know tv and broadband are 2 different things but as your broadband is plugged into the tv part of the connector i think you'll be alright,
Just make sure you dont ring up for any extra white cable the mrs did when i was at work the guy came and pulled some off a roll and asked the mrs if that was enough she sid yes he cut it off and put 2 plugs on threw it on the sofa and drove off,
On the next bill they had charged us £25 for 4 metres of cable

gkandr4ch - nothing plugged into this outlet other than BB modem. One end is BB modem, other end is Virgin cable in the ground, and I don't plug anything into the second output you see in the pic marked FM

It has a cover on it which isn't too bad, shame it's proud of the wall mind.
What I'd like to do is fit one of these;
![](http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Wall_plate_Connectors/images/NX-WP-038.jpg)
And then use a couple of these;
![](http://www.maplin.co.uk/images/300/ke14q.jpg)
So each coax has a input on the back of the wallplate, then attach the right angle adapters to each output on the front before attaching the inside cables, so that each cable is pointed down to the floor and can be tacked along skirting...
but I don't think I have cable room to do this

Check the T&C of your contract before you fuck about with it.
VM are not very happy with people playing with there toys.
Network compromise is one they keep using, then boot people off.

Adrian - they didn't install anything to do with this - the points in the house were installed when it was built - all Virgin did was connect the existing coax outside (one running through the wall was already there since birth of house) and then plug into this "TV" point inside (again already there... So as far as I can see, this isn't thier "toys" as such......

dont forget your signal loss with connections matey, loosing 2% of RF and VHF-R thru each connector, just becuse the screen is interupted, i belive 72 ohms is the impedance of your coax or should be.. the 'n' type connectors are ok but still not as signal significant as bnc... you will find it will work fine if you just connect them together, however if you use the box idea with the 90 degree adaptors you may find you get 'noise' on your system,
thats digital noise which causes havoc with your BB, you may find as i did a significant improvement if you use good quality conections and make it straight thru, i actually soldered mine and made a screen as you would on any RF cable to keep out noise.. my tv and broadband have a marked improvement,

Got one joiner from Maplin this morn for 89p just to test it, but they didn't have anymore. When I went to Screwfix to find a drill bit (that I didn't need and couldn't use
) they had em, but price was £2.15!!!!
I thought fuck it, I need one, so bought it. I didn't realise tho it was £2.15 for a bag of ten
So now I have nine left
