Ice Hockey.... anyone know why they let this happen?

when i played ice hockey we were always told to protect
our keeper if someone hit him we hit them
fighting always happens in ice hockey and the ref wont split it up until
someone falls or it gets to serous with sticks getting used

Was gonna say once someone falls or sticks gets used it allowed !
I used to play for the Streatham Redskins years ago & street hockey (Beckenham Scorpions) too ! (roller skates & more fights
) loved it !

My understanding has pretty much been covered above.
Years ago viewing figures were dwindling and the powers than be noticed tha people loved the scraps.
Long story short- It is legal because it brings in the viewers.... but NO sticks allowed and the second someone hits the deck you are supposed to break up.
Notice how they hold each other up in hockey fights? This is so they can keep smashing the fook out of each other.
They have sin bins i believe, so people can cool off!
There was a "player" who was sentenced to jail time for using his stick on a player
There are examples of teams having "players" who are absolute dogwank at hockey, yet if the team is losing or getting torn apart by a player....they send on the big lump, he starts a big fight with the oppositions start man and hey presto, both players get sin-binned

So its actually 'legal' in the game but im sure if a player is just set upon (like as said above), then im sure they could still do them for assault surley (if they wanted too of course)? Although im sure theres an unwritten rule to say no further action will ever be taken.
Footballers have been done for assaults on players before, so im sure its still the same with hockey.
Saying that, im suprised the do gooders havnt got this banned by now though.
Although its good to watch, i certainly wouldnt want my kid watching it. Not a good message to put out to kids to cheer them on and imply that its ok.

, its just something i think kids should not see in my opinion, especially in whats supposed to be a 'sport'. If you want to watch 'decent' fights then we have the UFC for that, where its organised, controlled and 'safe',
, not a few wild punches thrown cos someone spat their dummy out in a glorified girls game.

BUT also saw a program once that said in certain games in america the teams would actually put players on purely to fight as there was some sort of fight league!!!!
So take both as you will
