Its what i do for a living, for the past 9 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you see these people go "ohhhh its a fuckin awesome paint job",TRUST ME,it dont come out the booth like that!!!!!

Theres loads of stuf out there now to make my job easier..3M and Ferecla have great products..BUT if you dont know what your doing, dont bother,as you will SERIOUSLEY fuck your car up!!!!

All it involves its flattin a car down, then using Trizact or a Mirka pad,rub that all over it to remove and scrathces your put in with your wet and dry,and mop it up....

And who ever up there said "do it by hand",dont quite work like that my friend

As warleydaddy says, if you havn't done it before then be VERY careful as you can easily make a mess of it. I used to see plenty of people at work going through the laquer or paint so they ended up back at the bodyshop.

Ive done quite a few in the past at work, and although im not the best at it, some of mine used to end up swirly once out in the sun and i had to do it again outside. Theres a real skill to doing it properly and totally swirl free.

Default FECK IS A MOP

USING a mop is not for anyone to use you can easy buff through
the paint on edges and lines and swirl fook out of the body try to keep the mop head wet at all times and use a good autoglym polish after
been in the bodywork trade for 15yrs + buffed many of cars take it to somone that can do it good JOHNY THE WAX

Minimum is £200 realistically, if you want more than a quick mop.
Also depends on the car, as for example german paint is very hard, so takes longer as it needs more work.
Then there's scratches to get out.
Get what you pay for really, depends what level of finish you want.
If you look under petrol station lights, you can see all the lacquer scratches.
After a proper machine polish you'll end up with paint like this:

Well if i do a mop for someone,i charge £60 all over...

but i know if you go in to a garage, esp my old place, they charged someone £170!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As said above,if you dont know what your doing,DONT BOTHER!!!!!!!!!!!! It will all end in tears!!!!!!

And yeh Trizact is the FUCKIN BOLLOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ive always been a fan of G,but when i tried Trizact,ESP with the trizact pads, its just fuckin unreal man!!!

As for leavin panels for 2 weeks,WHAT A LOAD OF BOLLOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! Aslong as you use the right activator, you can mop a job within 40mins!!!! ok,it will still be soft, but you can do it,as i have MANY a times....

How longs a piece of string???

Depends on colour, how bad it is,size etc etc..

Obvious,£60 is for a normal size car, obvoiusley,if you turned up in a range rover, then it aint going to be £60!

So basically it's a bit of a clean up for the wax/sealant to bond to?
Surely no paint correction for £60?

Ah right
Thought it must be like that for £60.
Better than nothing job, without wishing to sound insulting.

When I had mine done it took all day, and got all the lacquer swirls out along with a couple light scratches.

Often heard term 'mopping' wasn't 100% sure how far it went

Time wise it dont bother me.... If it takes me a hour,or 5,il still do the same job!!!!!

3m stuff is good, and Triazact is 3m!!!!!!! Green top, then use machine polish with a waffle (blue top),then wax... Its aslo better using the 3m polish/tack rags, remove most swirls too...

I know Trizact is about £27 a bottle,BUT if you use it,you HAVE TO use the Trizact pads too if youve had to flat anything...If its just a simple "can you mop my car pleae,to make it shinney again" then G3 is better....

The lacquer is hard on German cars from the factory.

I think what he might mean is there is a different type lacquer on bmw's and mercs. Fairly sure its only on the expensive cars tho. Its called ceramic lacquer. It was developed because most of the people who buy those cars put them through the automatic brush wash which is proven to dull and scratch paint work. Ceramic lacquer is harder than the normal 2k product so it'll hold its durability and gloss a lot longer. So as you can imagine its harder to mop one of those cars

It seems to be all German cars, anyone that has to work with these cars - sorting defects, swirls, scratches etc will tell you.

That scratch took a lot of time and flatting to get rid of, yet was something silly like 0.2 of a micron to achieve it.
Could have used t-cut or similar for a week by hand and not touched it.

Thanks for getting back to me pete!

Does it really matter if the car is metalic? As i don't wanna kill the clearcoat to get the colour to shine!

So would you say £100 for a saff is a respectable price?
