still, it's an impressive time but i'm sure there might have been some tom foolery going on behind the scenes, if it's the same as it's always been for the earlier car, they get unlimited amounts of laps (within reason) and they pick the fastest one from the lot, unlike the new car where you get 5 practice laps and then your timed lap
either way, it's a cracking time, if he hadn't of spun away from teh line so much i reckon he owuld have had it in the bag

I also thought this about the car leaving the line slowly, this is probably the main place he gained time. But the car's that slow, maybe its just as quick to let it spin, rather than have it bog down.
It was very fast, he might be over a second quicker than every1 else and the stig. But the stig shouldn't be at the top of the board now, he's not as good as the f1 driver's otherwise he would be in an F1 car.
I'd like to see a touring car driver go around
Just because lewis is in F1 does not make him the best in the world....
Lewis has taken ages mate. 6 years since leaving karting to F1, thats an eternity... he first drove a maclaren in 2004... wasnt deemed ready tho..
You seem to have such a major chip on your shoulder about Hamilton! Could it possibly be that you both karted at vaguely similar times in your lives, and he made it, whilst you amounted to fuck all?
Karting is where you LEARN your craft - you don't have to be the best when you start out to be the best when you reach the top.
So he had support? Are you telling me Button never had major cash on his way up? And so what? Other more talented drivers didn't have the money. Such is life. When I karted I was seriously seriously quick, but a huge accident and no money, plus an insistence on education first means that I am sat here correcting your nonsensical bullshit, rather than being paid to race somewhere..... That's the way it happens.
But your Hamilton diatribe just makes you sound like one of those guys doing the "I could have played in the Premiership - I had trials for Liverpool" or whatever.....
And after all your anti-Hamilton remarks, he's still one of the current best F1 drivers in the world, and not one of your misguided opinions changes that.

Fir enoug PON, i dont like boxing but showed an iterest is that ok?
been to more grand prix than i care to remember and have the last 27 years on various tapes and dvd's. I know enough about f1.
i aint bitter i aint got no reason to be bitter.. But you are right lewis with the money and support has succeded very well. But from a raw talent point of view there were many many better drivers who raced him.
Other drivers have not needed as much experiance as him to get to the level he has also. He has the best car and lets see how he does next year! now he is number one in the team.
I made the point of the FSA because porkie was like show me the results.. i cant be arsed to go thru evry old kartin magazine, You PON know whagt FSA is and the fact he won FA THE YEAR before then got his arse cained in FSA shows what a competitive class it is with some SERIOUS talent.

So?
So every karter with talent would make a good F1 driver?
Karting, as you well know, is the base. If it took Hamilton longer than others to get to the top even with that financial help, than as British F1 fans, it's in our benefit.
It happens in all sports, but in motorsport, it's more than just raw talent that you need to reach the top. I can't see what the problem is. I saw Button getting beat when karting. What does that prove?

There is more to it,, Lewis has proved that. But he has been spoon fed for the last ten years. SO MUCH has been ploughed into him he was never going to fail.
Are you a fan of his?
#61
Of course. He's British, and has a supreme talent in that F1 car.
I don't care in the slightest whether he's had huge financial support. Gone are the days of Mansell sleeping at the track in a transit van.

We have a British Triple World Champion out there btw..... he had pretty humble beginnings and got noticed after walking the British Hillclimb Championship in '95...taking many outright records along the way. (which is where i met him when my dad was his mechanic).
He went on to do a few other disciplines and had to sell his house and cars to fund his career, living in a caravan at silverstone to save money.
he is a supremely good driver, but IMO not as good as Hamilton.
Even if he'd had the backing Lewis has had, i still don't think he'd have been as fast IN AN F1 CAR!!
Karting and Formula Renault and F3 etc are tough, but it's when you get in the fastest cars that you can see who's got what it takes, obviously Lewis has!
Looking forward to the new season already

jesus why is everyone trying to fault lewis??
we finaly get a good british sports man and people are trying to say its set up and a con, hes a naturally good driver! whats his first year in F1 and you can see that.. he didnt win no, but he would have if he didnt have a bad last race... gearbox etc
i doubt lewis did 1000's of laps to get that time, he looked to calm and like he said he only came down for the crack, i bet the stig has litraly drove round there 1000 times, he had a day to learn the track.
like it would change anything even if he did come last? hes still the best driver in the country hands down.
people on her realy do need to chill out...

still, it's an impressive time but i'm sure there might have been some tom foolery going on behind the scenes, if it's the same as it's always been for the earlier car, they get unlimited amounts of laps (within reason) and they pick the fastest one from the lot, unlike the new car where you get 5 practice laps and then your timed lap
either way, it's a cracking time, if he hadn't of spun away from teh line so much i reckon he owuld have had it in the bag

I never said me your prick... better drivers..
liek Davide Fore, Gianlucca Beggio
Miek Spencer, Oliver Jarvis. etc
just to name a few..
Lewis got his arse kicked in FSA end of
FFS go and ask your mum if you can borrow her car and go and blow off some steam.

I look forward to seeing his dry lap

Aye that's not true. Money doesn't = natural talent.
Look at that GP Masters race a year back, all previous F1 drivers over 40. All in the same car and Mansell finished the 30 lap race over 30 seconds ahead of the 3rd place driver iirc.
You either have talent or you don't. McClaren invested in him because of his potential. Apparently he just walked up to Ron Dennis when he was 10 years old, and said one day he wanted to drive for McClaren.
