Andy Ive just been made redundant from Renault Head Office Customer services and trying to get into a dealership now onto service reception, you wouldn't believe how hard it is

I should think if you've worked in service/repairs for Peugeot and the attached aggravation that you get from customers on account of your technicians being useless and the product being overtly shite, that you could get a job as a negotiator in the army on the frontline in Afghanistan.
Failing that, if you want to stay in the Motor Industry, have a look here:

Andy, i currently work as a parts advisor not far from you in bromley (at a guess)
worked as a vw service advisor, and personally found it the worst job ive done, just beeing a front from the workshop, that in my case you coultn rely on, and took the abuse from customers for something that i had no direct controll over
back in part, in a brillaint dealership and like the motortrade again
my suggestion if you want to stay in the trade would be to get a non customer facing role, done that as well and was the easiest job ibe done (admin )or speak to dancossie, as his job/contacts are pretty usefull iirc

Sales is too many hours. I use to work 8am till silly o'clock and most weekends but I was Sales and Business Manager so I could duck out of the ones I didn't want to do. Didn't mind the job itself but fuck going back to those kind of hours again.
Most dealerships are now run by Accountants so grasping the reality of the industry as it is, for what it is ...well it doesn't make the job any easier than what it could be!
I was offered a job back in but sod going from Management to showroom floor and getting told what to do by some numb nuts with a swede for a brain ...just doesn't hit the spot for me after 16 years of been in it

He's nearly 60, worked for my dad for 18 years and he's a total cunt.
I'll give him a good reference though if it gets him out of my life.

I really want to come out of it all together and possibly even start as a trainee somewhere (if the money is ok to live on.
They do say being on front desk is one of the hardest jobs to do in a dealership......
I need to have my weekends free again and less hours. 8-6 is a long day. Dont get me wrong if the job was really rewarding I wouldnt mind one bit.

Andy - There is so many different routes you can take in the motor trade........but you will find that alot of people who leave the trade normally go back

I was a service advisor at Lipscomb Volvo then went to Perrys Volvo, then Perrys Vauxhall & finished up at BMW main dealer, kept moving around to get more money. Did it for 8yrs, in the end i really hated working in the motortrade (although cars are my hobby) as the hrs were far too long 08.00-6.00pm & every other Sat 08.00-1.00pm tbh i found it made me quite ill in the last yr of working at BMW & thought of every excuse i could to go off sick or say i had to look after my kids etc. Luckily for me my wife was the main earner & still is i was ready to jack it in without finding another job but i ended up getting a job as a BT engineer & at the age of 30yrs had to take a 7k pay cut to start traning in my new career. Still a BT engineer 7yrs later & earning more than i did as Service advisor, plus i only do 36hrs a week over a 4 day week & have a van i can jump in right outside my front door so it doesn't cost me to travel to work. I could never go back to working indoors going to the same place of work everyday, everyday my job is different

Working in parts is pretty good if you can find a compnay that actually lets you get on with actually selling and not a load of complete bollox with tons of paperwork and all sorts of other drivel..... I'm a salesman and imo a fucking good 1 but I get sooo weighed down with bullshit it's unbeleiveable
Good luck with whatever you choose

sales?? parts??
do my job. all about money.
I dont even see 99% of the parts i sell.
Iv got clean fingernails, start at 8, walk out the door at 5.30, sit at a desk most of the day answering calls
I cant complain. Im good at what i do, iv , i get some perks (ie race of champoins for free) and i get bonused on what i sell
www.eurocarparts.com, look @ jobs section.
Long as ur worldly wise, u can do it.
Im not from a parts background (retail mainly) but am one of the top salesmen in my branch (better than blokes doin my job for 10 or 20 years)
