its a small brown relay in the middleish of the board, fuse no5

you may find that its the fusebox that is fooked as this happened on my escort cabby, i had to bridge out fuse 5 to the relay for a temp fix
they get dry solder joints and fook up often

if it is the box, take a pic of all the links and relays etc, then remove them all and all the plastics surrounding it, they re-solder every joint you can get the soldering iron on. i did this to mine and it was fine after

have you tried to bridge a wire from fuse 5 to the relay?

if you have changed the relay and its still not workiing it sounds like it is the fuese box.

does the fan blower still work on pos 1 and 2, or only 3??

thats another sign that the fuse box is fucked

get a bit of wire and join it to the +ve side of the fuse holder and other end directly into top of relay +ve slot, then insert the relay

bypassing the fuese box basically

if it works, its the fues box and you will need to re-solder all the joints like i said

Put power straight from the pump wire and it wants to run?? I can hear a small clunk noise coming from inside the tank? Maybe the pump sucked something in and jammed?

update.
Dropped the tank and took the pump unit out of the top. put it to power and it sounds seized.
a mate has got a mondeo 1.8 breaking so i took the top of the tak out of that ( alot easier than the escort as there is a big enough hole under the rear seat to get to it ) and the actual pump was the same part number and size so i swapped that into where my one sits in the sender unit.
put it back in the tank and connected it up and it primed up and started...
lifted the tank back up and same thing again.. small clunk noise but no priming noise??????????
