apart from the rgit it would be worth doing a greenhand course which covers all the basics of what you need to know for going off for the first time... http://www.onsitetrainingservices.co...-greenhand.htm nice freindly place to do a training course and i find out of all the courses and certs i have the ones done by them are among the most respected

then try some of the agencies in aberdeen like bryant or rbg

I'm contract, that means i get 180 days pay a year ie 15 days a month every month. Some other companys work it differently as in you get 1 amount for being at home and another rate for when your offshore. Personally i would prefer to do it my way as i know exactly what i'm getting each month.

Plus in my 1st year i only worked 140 days and got paid 180, if i had done 220 i would have been paid 220 so i'm in a win win situation imo.

If your young and single i couldnt think of a better job to do especially working out in the far east with all those lbfm's

Pan euro Survival with medicals is around Ł1100, then i think you need anotherone to go onto rigs. Its alright saying his mrs is giving him full backing but has he ever been away from home before? I'm just asking because a mate went offshore and also had full support from his mrs but after a week when he phoned her she told him she was leaving him, she proper cracked up aparently as in lost the plot cucu lol. She though she would be alright but just couldnt hack being without him, you know what women are like there fucking wired up wrong. Then there is the fact that 90% of older offshore workers are devorced lol

if he's mechanic then he has a wide choice of options, from motorman, rig mechanic to engineer with a drilling company or service company.

His best option would be to get a CV together, do his survival (make sure its fully authorised by UKOOA) and get his name into agencies in Aberdeen.

cheers

I did my offshore training at HOTA in hull. Did the norwegian part aswell. Was 5 days all in.

Im a gas turbine engineer by trade so work offshore aswell as all over world. Was offshore aberdeen last week. The platform i was on was mainly run by contractors with limited core workers.
The agencies supplying the contractors are called AMEC and BI SALAMIS.
Was talking to some of them whilst i was there and they are desperate for scaffolders and riggers.

Best thing to do would be to get your medical done and then do your survival course and then approach these companys. You'd pay for the course and medical within 2 days off working offshore.

Only thing different with the norwegian part is an extra day and half training. Its an extra 2 dunks in the helicopter without the re breather and a bit more on first aid and the types of life raft used in norwegian waters. If you dont plan on going to the norwegian sector then its not worth doing.

Hope this helps

I'm also looking to get offshore.
Done my survival 3 weeks ago now. It was Ł630 incase anydody needs to know, that was in South Tyneside. I've worked as a mechy fitter at a local firm for the past 18 years and feel I need a change. I've made well over 40 grand for the last 5 years so it is a bit of a gamble considering this I the time I've got in here, but its a gamble I'm gonna take ( even better if I can get my redunny)

So anyone looking for mechy fitters out there I'm your man !!!

I work for a division of Baker Hughes and we to are looking for guys, infact Baker Hughes pays us Ł500 if we can find someone suitable for a position within the company

There are no shortage of jobs in the oil and gas industry at the moment. Maybe something to do with the fact its nearly $100 per barrel

The local paper up here is always FULL of oil related jobs on a friday.

It can be seen at www.thisisnorthscotland.co.uk

Really guys, it's honestly a piece of piss to get offshore. Just about every trade is screaming for people just now. A lad I know used to be the greenkeeper at a local golf course, decided on a change of career, he started on 45k p/a doing nothing more than scraping shit out of air conditioning ducts offshore.

I've been offshore for a couple of years now and all this pish about working in a harsh environment? Forget it. Last platform I went to has a Gym, Sauna, Sunbed, Nintendo Wii, Golf Simulator, and thats not even the best I've been on. And the workload isn't exactly tough either. Like tea and television? You'll love the North Sea then.

My advice would be just get your name out wherever possible. print off about 100 CVs and challenge yourself to get them all sent out, with a covering letter with "I am keen to work Overseas/Abroad" in bold typeface! Not sure about further south but I know that Petrofac are recruiting people in droves up here, and there are any number of agencies ready willing and able to pimp you out.

Well like I said, be sure to send CVs out to everyone you can find out who sends people offshore, all the little companies, not just the big players. Wee companies are more likely to take on a total novice and train them on the job.

another thing i would say companys like nowadays is that you stay within 20 miles of the company or the heliport incase of a call out or even so you can go into the workshop on your time off so id say few companys would take on a lad from london unless you had previous work offshore or experiance

They have always been decent payers. Alot of other places have caught up now paywise, but theres always o/t available. You should of took the apprenticeship here!! Well maybe not cos you could of been stuck with me!!
I served me time here but I just fancy a change. You can make good money but you have to put the hours in. Some inst. fitters and elecys here have broke Ł60k but thats working constant 7 nights a week just about. If I can make that kind of money and having 6 months at home I will be happy.
